Spurs slam Doherty door

By Dave Langton

Spurs have told West Ham that they do not intend to loan Matt Doherty out on transfer deadline day.

The Hammers are reported to have asked Tottenham about the possibility of signing the right-back on loan.

He has struggled for minutes this season and has fallen behind Emerson Royal in the pecking order; the Brazilian played against West Ham in last night’s 1-1 draw, while Doherty was on the bench.

However, sources have told C&H that Spurs have no intention of allowing anyone to leave at this stage unless a replacement can be found.

They are not actively searching for a right-back, and do not intend to let any first-team players leave in the final hours of the window.

If boss David Moyes is interested in signing a player in the position, he will have to look elsewhere before tonight’s deadline.

Elsewhere, Craig Dawson is closing in on a move to Wolves, with Southampton’s Jan Bednarek likely to join on loan to replace him.
