Newcastle United- sold for £305m do not own their own stadium. It is in fact owned by Newcastle City Council.
The same is true of Manchester City whose Etihad stadium is owned and rented to them by the Manchester City council.
Brighton and Hove Albion is a third club in that situation with their Amex stadium owned jointly by Brighton University and Brighton Council.
Most other clubs also do not own their own stadiums, either having transferred ownership to other legal entities and not by the clubs themselves.
It has become normal practice to separate the club and the stadium into two limited companies which in theory could be sold separately.
Stamford Bridge is owned by Chelsea Pitch Owners plc which is a nonprofit organisation. Former club captain John Terry is the current President of the CPO.

Success and ownership of the stadium are not always linked as is proofed by PSG who leases the Le Parc des Princes stadium from the Paris City Council.
West Ham have a 99-year agreement to rent the stadium for a set number of games per year from E20 Stadium LLP for around £3m which is index-linked.
Neither does abramovitch own Chelsea’s stadium. He tried to buy it in 2011 but failed. The freeholder is a non-profit organisation that also owns the naming rights of the club.
