Talk Sport reports that Mark Noble and Tim Steidten are urging West Ham chairman David Sullivan to sign Ruben Amorim, despite Sullivan’s advanced talks with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui. They are looking to replace David Moyes, who has been at the helm for four-and-a-half years at the London Stadium.

Noble and Steidten, the technical director, believe that appointing Sporting Lisbon’s head coach Amorim would make a significant statement of intent. Amorim, who has a release clause exceeding £10 million, flew in for discussions with Sullivan last month.

These discussions sparked controversy in Portugal, leading Amorim to apologize to Sporting and its fans for meeting with West Ham during a critical time in the Primeira Liga title race against Benfica.

Despite initially seeming hesitant about leaving due to his commitment to Sporting and rumored links to replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Amorim is reportedly still interested in a move to the Premier League.

The £10 million price tag is considered a stumbling block for Sullivan, with Lopetegui being a more cost-effective option since he has been without a club since leaving Wolves in August 2023.

This presents a complex situation for Sullivan, who is keen on securing Lopetegui. However, given the fan pressure through a petition, Sullivan could find his position at the club precarious should Lopetegui not succeed in East London.

Typical of Sullivan more concerned with money rather than putting the club first we need a quality manager not some has been that has his teams playing tactics worse than anything Moyes has ever done if that’s the road Sullivan wants to go down then it’s clear he doesn’t have the same hopes as the fans players and members of staff do we could do with owners that want the club to win trophies etc

  • Pete says:

If Sully had an ounce of dignity and even one testicle, he’d put his faith in Tim. Otherwise he needs to leave this club. Ruining it by butting in and not leaving it to the professional HE hired who has a positive track record in Managers, Signings and Finances……unlike himself.

  • Rob Anderson says:

That little gremlin needs to take a step back “ And listen to Tim “ let him do his job . But what will happen is Sullivan will bring in Lopetegui , Steidtenwill walk and it will all go tits up !

  • Stuart Nolan says:

We were promised Ambitious Goals for leaving Upton Park Great Leadership is listening to your fan base we want fresh ideas and attacking football win lose or draw.Amorim in you can’t fail to win fortune favours the brave but won’t forgive lack of ambition ⚒

  • Paul says:

Just over £10M for the right man is Drop in the ocean for s rooge Sulli an

  • Graham says:

Fed up with same old names. If Sullivan’s principal concern is his pocket, go for low cost option who plays attractive football on a low budget but Premier League experience

    Silva or Iraola?

  • Terry says:

Letting Moyes go for Lopetegui would be like sacking Hitler and replacing him with Goebbels.

  • weathamsteve says:

So here’s the choice-a young progressive manager costing around £10m or a 57 year old who walked out on Wolves during his contract and has been unable to tie down another club but costs nothing! Mini or Rolls Royce?

  • Dean Morley says:

Sullivan, like Moyes has taken us as far as they can we now need to step up to the next level which should be Thank You to both for what you’ve achieved but now it’s time to go.

  • West Ham Voice says:

I think we all know that no one is demanding anything

There may be a preference from some at the club to appoint Amorim but at the end of the day, whether we like it or not, it’s Sullivan who pays the wages and Sullivan who has final say on who is hired

I would prefer an alternative but if it’s lopetegui then I’d at least be willing to see what he can deliver

  • Ian says:

    To Gonzo
Assuming the Boards. primary objective is to make money 💰.
Is now. an appropriate time to organise a genuine pole to find the extent of fans
support for Steidten to reopen negotiations with AMORIM .
    I. believe a good response will quickly be converted by the Board into money!

  • Tezzard says:

What is the leadership structure at our mess if a club anyway ?

Sullivan hires noble then steidten for the roles of sporting and technical directors. What’s the difference btw? I’m assuming their roles concern the footballing side of the business so choosing a new head coach for the first team is their responsibility. Not David Sullivans . Otherwise what’s the point in them ?

It was reported a 12 million pay off is a problem for Sullivan , now it’s 10 million. If true, and Sullivan over rules them , they should both walk away imo.

  • Essexiron67 says:

I agree with Paul £10 million pound is nothing against what moyes has wasted on his chosen players , I don’t need to name them . Get Amorim in so he can get the players he and Tim want before we end up with the leftovers. I just want us to compete for the whole season not just up until Xmas. I’ve been a fan since 1967 and have never felt so frustrated with the negative tactics.

  • Tezzard says:

    West Ham voice ,

The point is , beyond giving steidten (and noble??) a budget , Sullivan and the board need to stay out of decision making and trust the staff they hired to do their job!

All Chairman and shareholders pay the wages ‘ but they do not meddle in the recruitment of staff several pay grades below.

  • Mal Colyer says:

I can’t believe all this nonsense, that’s going on. If Sullivan is too tight to get the right man, somebody should point out, the fact, that playing European football generates a lot of income. Something we have achieved the last couple of seasons, but if Sullivan opts for the wrong man, we can kiss that money goodbye.

  • Deathblow says:

If Sullivan appoints the cheap option then that’s it for me. I won’t be renewing and I know several others who’ve had enough of this imbecile who buys ‘name’ ‘presents’ for managers who don’t want them, pays them a fortune in wages, then gives them away.
This has cost him millions and millions, far more than this minimal 10 million for a coach everyone wants except him.
Sullivan is why this club will never move on, and if he thinks he’ll still be coining it, well he’s even more delusional than I thought.
He’ll be left with an empty soulless bowl only ‘full’ when the top 4 play.
Tourists and plastic fans aren’t interested in watching lower table drivel against a defensive West Ham.
When will this moron just **** off and leave it to the professionals HE appointed?
Stay at home with the gold-digger woman and let Tim and his staff, and Noble get on with the jobs they were appointed to do.
    Porno-Sullivan OUT!

  • S gower says:

I’ve been going to west ham since 1967 and this is the first time we have had the opportunity to move in with the “big boys”. Appointing Lopetegui will put a stop to that. He is simply just another version of moyes with a different accent. “Be careful what you wish for”. We never wished for this!!!!!

  • The Central Scrutinizer says:

Talksport said Noble and Steidten were urging Sullivan to sign Amorim.Which is a bit different to your headline Gonzo.
    Demand is giving an order.

  • Wayne says:

Sullivan will go for the cheap option… wait and see ..moyles still there next season because it’s cheaper

  • Lawson Regis says:

Sullivan doesn’t really care for our club because if he did we would not be in this situation we are in always looking for the cheap option but he let’s millions on player sales..There’s only 2 manager’s he should be moving hell and earth for to bring back this club should be and that’s Amorim or Foseca.. Nothing else won’t do.. COYI…

  • Ron says:

West Ham the hammers without Moyes is a joke. West Ham will once again slip into thr realms of the irrelevant.

  • exsoulie says:

Dully just loves the non excitement of low block football and would rather risk money on a Hugill/Phillips….list goes on.He will sign loppy and when it goes tits up Dully we say we should have kept Moyes.

  • ResultsMatter says:

Gonzo, does Sullivan have a club-related e-mail address? Can you share that with us? If a few thousand supporters flooded his inbox with the name of their preferred Manager, maybe he would get the message.

  • HammerBill says:

Sullivan is a fool if he thinks he knows better then steidten & captain legend !!

  • Ian says:

    To Gonzo
    Well that’s a start .!

  • Julesthehammer says:

Sullivan has wasted millions on s××t players and he can’t pay £10m on a decent managers pay out clause? I’m getting seriously ****ed off with the clowns in charge of our club

  • UK Comment says:

The board would think nothing of spending 10m or 15m on a player, so it’s not about the money. I think the factor being overlooked here is that Sullivan is afraid of losing control to a situation where the club becomes a runaway success. This is not as counter intuitive as it might appear. Mid table safety guarantees him a continued great financial return and little threat from a full takeover. As long as he continues with mediocre managers the club is safe both from the cost of relegation but also the drain on his personal funds required to maintain a top push. For Sullivan West Ham is a cash cow. Champions League ambitions are most definitely not his priority.

  • Hugh Jassoll says:

that’s only about half the money they threw away on Haller and Cornet not to mention benrama, scammaca, and vlasic
