Strange goings on but Soucek a landslide winner

|

In the peculiar absence of the Hammer of the Year vote and awards ceremony just a reminder that the ClaretandHugh Hammer of the year poll was won by Tomas Soucek.

Not only did the brilliant midfielder win it but he did so by a landslide with Declan Rice surprisingly coming a distant second.

Vlad Coufal was placed third with Angelo Ogbonna coming in fourth.

For reasons which remain unclear despite five inquiries by CandH, the club has failed to offer any explanation for the delay in the vote which has been running since 1958.

And for once in our lives, we are finding it hard to come up with any sort of explanation although we hear on our personal grapevine that the award is due to be made on the first home game of the season.

That, however, doesn’t explain why no vote has been held on an award that includes World Cup-winning trio Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters among previous winners.

Trevor Brooking, Billy Bonds, Julian Dicks, Paul Ince, Rio Ferdinand, Paolo Di Canio, Joe Cole, Carlos Tevez, Dimitri Payet and reigning winner Declan Rive are also within an illustrious list of winners
