That simply wasn’t good enough

West Ham lost 1-0 to Brighton last night in what was a very disappointing display seeing as the team came into the game unbeaten in four.

Yarmolenko – shrugged aside for the start of the move which led to goal

The Hammers had revived their desperately poor start to the season with seven points against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Coming into the Brighton game, confidence would have been sky high amongst the players and fans were also very optimistic that we could put some more points on the board.

Glenn Murray unsurprisingly nabbed another goal but how the goal came about highlighted the team’s laziness. Andriy Yarmolenko lost the ball on the half-way line and without tracking back left Berem Kayal to attack down the wing.

Mark Noble took the responsibility of trying to close the Brighton man down but when unable to stop the cross, he was let down by the defenders in the box.

Arthur Masuaku left Glenn Murray and the centre-backs were split by the Englishman as he steered home his fifth of the season.

From there we did have good spells and some decent chances to score from but the players set-up from the start with the wrong mentality, thinking they could come to the Amex and roll Brighton over.

If they needed reminding, that was the team who beat us home and away last season and although not technically a great outfit they’re well drilled and they know how to set up to get a win.

This isn’t the first time this season West Ham have been outdone by a inferior opposition on paper and Manuel Pellegrini needs to get at the players to make sure they give the same commitment every single game.

On the night it simply wasn’t good enough but the players have to pick themselves back up for the next game against Tottenham.
