The West Ham comeback king

|

What a changed player Aaron Cresswell has become!

Yesterday was probably one of his best games in a West Ham shirt, his defending, his passing, his crosses and corner were all spot on.

He hit the bar during the second half with a great free-kick and he really looked dangerous throughout the game with another amazing volley which came close.
The 30-year-old has been a different player since David Moyes changed the formation, going to a back three.
Cresswell was the man of the match for me yesterday and he seems to be gaining confidence each match in the new formation.
His defending ability has been solid of late with some great balls into the box from the West Ham left-back. Cresswell suffered a groin problem against Liverpool but was declared fit enough to start against Fulham. It was not that long ago that some West Ham supporters were calling for the defender to be sold. He has certainly proved his doubters wrong in recent games and if he carries on like this could be a contender for Hammer of the Year.  He has a contract until June 2023 with the Hammers.

He has impressed enough for Jermaine Jenas to say he cannot be far off an England call up and is playing as well as anybody in the Country in that position.Credit Moyes for the change from a player most of us wanted rid of not that long ago.

He has been amazing. Even when not at his best it isn’t for lack of effort. Mitrovic was targeting him all match and Cresswell was up to the challenge. No small feat. MOTM.

He has survived any cull as he is not playing at left back anymore. If he had been he would not be good enough. As one of a back 3 he is doing ok. He still “lost” Harry Kane for his header against us. He “lost” Mitrovic 3 times last night. He is nowhere near perfect but looks more comfortable in a back 3 where his lack of pace is not catching him out so much. Long may it continue

Players like Kane, Mitrovic shouldn’t be marked by him especially in the 6 yard area. That should be Oggie. If they go out to the flank then obviously Cressie. It’s a mismatch when he has to mark their most dangerous goalscorer close to goal as he lacks height. Agree he has done very well otherwise.
