Third supporter arrested

Essex Police have arrested a third man in connection with an anti-Semitic incident involving West Ham fans.

A video emerged on social media on Thursday appearing to show some Hammers supporters on a flight to Belgium singing the offensive song as the man walked down the aisle to take his seat. The fans on the flight were on their way to watch West Ham play Belgian side Genk in the Europa League.

A statement from Essex Police read: “A third man has been arrested in connection with our investigation into a video on social media of a man being subjected to harassment on board a flight from Stansted Airport last week. The incident happened on 4 November. A 31 year-old man from Dartford voluntarily attended a police station earlier today (Monday 8 November).

“He has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and racially or religiously aggravated harassment. He is currently in custody.

“Two other men arrested have been released on bail until December 1.”

The Club have already issued indefinite bans to the first two supporters arrested and a third ban is almost certain definite to follow.

Essex police officers arrested the 26-year-old man at Stansted Airport around 4.30pm on Saturday as he stepped off a flight from the Netherlands.

The arrest has been made in connection with video footage onboard a Ryanair flight that showed several fans singing a highly offensive song at a man as he attempted to take his seat onboard a flight from Stansted.

A 55-year-old football fan who was arrested on Friday has since been released on bail.

He was arrested as he stepped off the return flight from Belgium shortly before 4 pm on Friday and taken to an Essex Police station for questioning.
