Several of West Ham’s relegated stars seemingly couldn’t wait to depart the scene of their own failure this summer, determined to continue their own career paths rather than dip their toes into life in the second division.
Callum Wilson, Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville were amongst the first tranche of players to be away on their toes.
During this international break there’s an opportunity to review how they’ve all fared after turning their backs on West Ham: Seemingly still prospering on the international stage, but enjoying something of a chequered career in Saudi, Crysencio Summerville moved to Al Hilal, netting West Ham an huge profit on the way.
The diminutive speedster was sold for £65 million – netting the Irons a cool £40m profit in two years – so nobody is weeping buckets within West Ham’s boardroom! As far as the player is concerned, his move always seemed somewhat disappointing, eschewing top level football in exchange for the big bucks.
Consequently, the winger has sparkled with virtually nobody noticing, such is the low profile of his chosen destination.
Summerville chose the Saudi Arabian leagues rather than Champions League football at Roma.
At least that was the case until his last outing, prior to the international break, when Summerville made the headlines for all the wrong reasons, received his marching orders for (of all things) violent conduct.

Likely now to receive a three game ban once he returns from international duty, Summerville will have plenty of time to reflect on his future away from the spotlight in the ‘football Siberia’ in which he’s chosen to ply his trade.
However, having seen his weekly wages grow from £45,000 to £234,709, Summerville will apparently earn three quarters of a million quid whilst sitting on his backside serving a three game suspension. Tax free, of course.
Anyone left still wondering why he chose Al Hilal? Thought not.
Wilson was only on a pay as you play contract wasn’t he?
Remained injury free and scored a handful of goals too.
Besides, his desire to become a Premier league centurion goal scorer is totally understandable.
