West Ham are now confirmed as front runners to sign the Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The USA captain is seen as a key part of the squad at Elland Road but is likely to leave relegated Leeds as they seek to cut wages and prepare for life in the Championship.

Due to Declan leaving and the possibility of Soucek leaving too , there is a need for reinforcements in central areas and Adams, 24, is now on the list to make a quick return to the top flight at the London Stadium.

If West Ham have strong designs on signing him though they will face stiff competition, with  Brighton, Aston Villa, Everton and Nottingham Forest as all interested .

The likelihood is that the Irons are going to need to sign at least two starting-quality central midfielders this summer after being relatively thin at the position, and what with the Rice and Soucek situation that could even rise to three.

Flynn Downes is one of a few recent arrivals who appears to have failed to earned the trust of David Moyes, although whether that is an issue with the player or the manager is still open to debate.

But after winning the Europa Conference League the Scot looks secure so if he isn’t sold on the former Swansea man he is going to need to bring in alternatives that he is confident to rely on.

Adams might not be up to Rice’s level but few in world football are, and while Leeds ultimately got relegated; the signing from RB Leipzig came out of the campaign with enough credit to have a number of suitors after him.

According to TransfermarkT , he seems to be available for about £18 million and may be worth a punt.
