Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards reckons West Ham loan star became a Manchester United “scapegoat.”
Speaking on Match of the Day, former Man City defender Richards backed Lingard to flourish at West Ham, arguing he was unable to show his form at all at Old Trafford.
He said: “You’re happy for him because what he’s gone through at Man United, he became the scapegoat. He is a quality player, isn’t he?
“His intent was there right from the off. He was getting comfortable, growing into the game, wanting the ball because it was a big occasion for him.
“You’ve been hiding behind the Man United covers, as some people would say, but we see here, he’s got more to his game.”
ClaretandHugh says: You really enjoy watching players come good particularly those whom you know have always had plenty of ability. And that David Moyes has given Jesse the chance to resurrect his career will stand us in good stead when we come to negotiate a fee with United in the summer because that’s what is bound to happen. Quite why he career hit such a downward dip is unclear although difficult personal circumstances, when he was forced to become a carer to certain members of his family, certainly had an effect. But since returning he has insisted on being involved at Manchester United Under 23 level and is showing himself to be a fine and dedicated footballer. Get a deal done as soon as possible Hammers. This is a player who ensures too that we will be getting the very best out of Said Benrahma as well given what we saw last night.
I also think that this loan spell will put us in good stead to capture Lingard’s signing. I have read various Man U supporter comments (and I guess that you have these type of supporters at every club), that they want to be shot of him, as they feel they have better options at the club. This is what happens when you are Man U supporters and feel you have an embarrassment of riches.
Personally, I hope we can get Lingard as he is a creative player who within two days of joining us has proved to us that class is permanent. He is a player with vast experience, big occasion know-how and bundles of ability. Lingard is a player who has been overlooked at a club which has been involved in perpetual upheaval and this could work to our advantage. In just a couple of days at our club, he formed instant understandings with so many of our players at the business end of the pitch. Imagine what he will be like in a couple of weeks time? Plus the whole squad will benefit from having a player of his stature playing for us and enjoying his football… Sign him up I say.
Hugh, how about a post to give our owners an ever so gentle nudge regarding The MOST Important long term signing that this club NEEDS to make going forward…….. Moyes on a 5-year contract!
How about that for ambition…. COYI
