Unity and speed required by Moyes and Sullivan

|

West Ham boss David Moyes’s transfer market abilities are about to be tested to the limits in what is certain to be a very difficult summer transfer market.

That’s already been shown at the club where one player he desperately wanted to stay – Jeremy Ngakia – left leaving  a stink behind him, while another we badly want to move is hanging around unsure of whether he wants to go.

We should know very soon whether the unwanted Albian Ajeti is on his way to Celtic or elsewhere with a club source explaining to us there could be other options available to him.

Who would be a football club manager?

We have yet to see how the Covid19 winter market will work out although it’s pretty sure the top four are unlikely to be affected as badly as the rest.

With players at virtually every club taking a cut in wages, along with senior staff, suggestions that the Covid scenario is being milked seem a little naive.

But that doesn’t alters the fact that we need a left and right back plus central defender and striker from somewhere and the £4,5 million we are likely to get for Ajeti should he decide Scotland is his chosen destination will help.

One of our best sources told us  on e mail: “There will be much ducking and diving at every club financially but we need new young faces in – that’s for sure.”

For all his faults defensively some club may well take a punt on Masuaku as an attacking left sided midfielder and Yarmolenko may also fetch a reasonable price along with Balbuena. The big question is whether we can get a decent price  for either Anderson or Lanzin – preferably both. Sorry we are stuck with Wilshere!

Between them Moyes – who must find the targets at prices he knows will be sensible – and David Sullivan as the deal doer, need a perfect relationship as it is the most important one in any club.

Sean wrote a couple of days ago that we have so far been linked with around 40 targets and with the season due to start in September Moyes will be keen to get things done fast.

I would think central defender and striker are his main priorities and that his list is probably closer to four than 40.

We are about to enter some very interesting times and we must hope that manager and joint chairman can develop the sort of relationship that was so successful between Moyes and Bill Kenwright  at Everton.

LB and RB are the main priority. CB, CAM, GK and ST are issues, but can be plastered over for a season as we do have players for those positions.

If we end up with Eze, Robinson, Wague and Benrahma with Grady coming back we will be strong. Ogbonna and Fabianski will need replacing next year as they hit the twilight of their careers but are more than capable of another season.

To sell: Ajeti, Lanzini, Balbuena, wilshere (would someone take him for free MLS?) Reid, Masuaku, Roberto
