War of words over West Ham takeover

|

Times journalist Henry Winter and Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan have both published a statement reported to be from Philip Beard who was linked to a Wets Ham takeover attempt in February.

Winter says “Philip Beard of Pai Capital on his consortium’s bid for  West Ham…says “David Sullivan was provided with a proof of funds” and consortium remains “committed to pursuing opportunities to purchase the club”.

Keegan adds “Response from Philip Beard and the consortium trying to buy West Ham to David Sullivan’s odd statement after Daily Mail story last week that a bid had been turned down from the club. Say proof of funds was provided and asking price was met.”

The statement alleged to originate from Philip Beard reads “It is not my intention to engage in a public debate on the comments made by David Sullivan last week, but upon advice, it is necessary to correct unhelpful and inaccurate statements.

The current owners of West Ham United made a controversial commercial decision to move the club from its historic home at Upton Park to the London Stadium in Stratford. In my assessment, ad that of the consortium that I represent, that is move is not fulfiling the needs of the club, its loyal fanbase or the local community. There is a lot that can and should b done to improve the experience for all fans and visitors to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. There is also a duty which we all share to the British taxpayer and to our Olympic legacy as Londerers – and ours is a London-based consortium.

In response to the David Sullivan comments about the nature and value of the bid put forward by the consortium, I can confirm that a formal bid was made which in fact the figure David Sullivan had initially asked for. Our City lawyers were instructed and David Sullivan was provided with a proof of funds.

We remain committed to pursuing opportunities to purchase the club, the London Stadium, and its place within the Olympic Park as a whole. It is backed by prominent personalities in sport, as well as West Ham legends who love the club and want to play a role in its development. We wholeheartedly welcome their support and hope that we will, together have the oppotunity to deliver the project that we have planned.

This is a once in a lifetime oppotunity to build West Ham United into a Londerers’ club of global importance, as a key part of the broader legacy being delivered at Queen Elizabeth park. The fans of London deserve this.

Hopefully this is going to get this bunch of lies and more lies gone forever, if your not interested in putting millions of your billions into west ham for transfers and that’s fine then get out now. If your going to stay then buy the players we need and ask for more when selling later also fine . Your only paying peanuts for stadium and getting still public money to keep it going so your very lucky a shrewd but that’s fine too but don’t start complaining about fans wanting you out and must now choose the options stay and pay out for transfers and ask more cash later or buy now players needed let the cash you agreed and go now making fans rejoice at last .

  • David noton says:

New owners please. Sullivan and Gold have stabilised us but to progress we need new owners

    • Beard is the bloke responsible for the decline and fall of QPR

      • Jim says:

QPR went into administration back in 2001, then you had Gianni Paladini who made the situation worse, then Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone. Then Fernandes who went on a mad spending spree. So a little unfair to say it’s all on Beard.

      • ByeByeSully says:

        Oh Hughie boy, don’t cry.
I personally cannot wait for all of the articles about the new ownership you write, just to see how bitter you are.
        Can taste your tears already.

        • Perhaps you should notice who wrote it first. Not bitter, not upset, been around too long unlike yourself it seems. All very amusing – you really should’t make assumptions about people of whom you don’t actually haven’t a clue. If you need help the name of the writer is at the bottom ok?

      • Haven't a clue rhymes with ... says:

Remind me,how many relegations have your friends overseen and when did Philip beard sell the home and history of qpr?

      • Sean Sweeney says:

        In what way?

      • Jim says:

QPR went into administration back in 2001. Then you had Gianni Paladini who made the situation worse, then Briatore and Ecclestone, before Fernandes then took over and went on a mad spending spree. So to say Beard is the bloke responsible for the downfall of QPR is incorrect.

        Second attempt.

A difficult read – even several times over. Looks more like the 4th year business studies group’s effort at a fantasy announcement. Might be good enough to get a teacher assessed A+, but all very childlike and unbelievable.

    • Julian Woodhouse says:

Doubt the consortium brought down QPR though Hugh, he is only one element of it, and makes Sullivan look to be the liar we all know he is. If they could buy the ground, develop it and enable us to replicate that development in the team then we might indeed have a new home and be able to move to the next level. But what is shows is Sullivan is incapable of being honest. GSB out

      • I’m very careful of calling people liars, I’ve been called a liar as has Sean – simply not true. It’s ok not to like people but words such as hate and liars are not on for me

        • Simon says:

I could read through one page of C&H and find numerous lies.
Take Sean stating that Vidal was watching out games in Scotland – the fella was in Chile. So, Sean lied.

As for the word ‘hate’ – you are more than happy to call people idiots, stupid and pigs.
Let’s not forget all of the nasty comments towards certain players that happen to ‘slip’ through moderation. When it happens so many times, it cannot be a mistake.

I’m sure this won’t be allowed onto the site as it exposes you

          • You are lying and I am not exposed. There’s nothing to expose. I call people stupid when they are being stupid as you do liars when they make a mistake. Just hatred and that’s your problem not mine. Anybody passing these sort of remarks about a website and football given the enoormous issues there are to concentrate upon may have a priority issues. It’s as though they believe we are offended or upset. ‘Fraid not!

    • Julian Woodhouse says:

Uh where’s the difficulty, they’ve just responded to Sullivan’s diatribe of lies and shown him to be what we know he is untrustworthy and definitely not having the best interests of West Ham as his guiding Modi’s operandi.

  • Johnad says:

Over to you GSB…. which one of you is telling porkies??

  • Childish says:

Who knows where new owners would take us ,,its a risk for sure ,but I think most would take a gamble as Sullivan and Co have took us as far as they want to…..

  • Ben says:

Isn’t the queen a west ham fan she’s got a few quid

  • Saul says:

Better the devil you know. Consortiums rarely have the billions needed to take a club today the top. In fact, any of you GSB Out brigade like to name me one consortium that owns a club that has ever finished in the top 6 of the Premier League? I’ll give you a few days…

    • Jim says:

      FSG Consortium- Liverpool

      • Saul says:

Hardly a true consortium; with a clear bankroller and owner in John Henry and certainly not several companies in ownership, therefore not really a consortium at all

        • Jim says:

Henry is 40% stakeholder in FSG so the majority holder.

FSG consortium consists of nearly 30 other wealthy individuals/companies who are in their own right extremely wealthy.

You asked for a consortium. In the world of football nowadays finding one single person with the money to bankroll a takeover is becoming increasingly unlikely. West Ham isn’t owned by one person.

        • Childish says:

          🤣🤣🤣

  • Jacqueline Gold says:

Dave isn’t interested at the current time in selling the club.

  • DJHammer says:

Just when we have a team that we can all be proud of, a record points tally, European football, a manager and staff who have improved players inherited, astute signings, all within a relatively low budget. We are beginning to hear a lot of background noise that is not helpful to the team in preparation for what promises to be a memorable season.

In fighting amongst us is counterproductive, we need to come together and get behind our team when they take to the pitch.

Leave the business dealings to one side, let them negotiate in the background, tactfully and discreetly preferably.
