West Ham are convinced Defoe wants to join

|

defoe3West Ham are convinced that Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe wants to join them next month write Daily Mirror journalists Darren Lewis and Neil McLeman in the tabloid today.

David Moyes last week insisted Defoe remains “priceless” to the Black Cats and maintained the marksman would not be sold but pressure will mount if the 34 year old puts in a transfer request like he did with the Hammers over twelve years ago.

Defoe was born in Beckon, Newham, a short distance from both the Boleyn Ground and London Stadium and still has friends and family in the area. He spent 15 years playing in London with five years at West Ham plus ten years during two spells with Spurs.

Ironically in May 2003 Defoe handed in a written transfer request to West Ham, a day after they were relegated. At the time he said: “This is very much a career decision. I am very ambitious and hungry to achieve at the highest levels of the game for both club and country. The club staff and especially the fans are very dear to me and have been unbelievable in the early part of my career. It will always be a special place for me to play.”

At the time West Ham’s response was: “I can confirm we are not accepting Jermain Defoe’s request,” said the then managing director Paul Aldridge on the West Ham website.

“It is unfortunate that he has received advice to put in a request at this time.”

I’m pretty sure he does want a return. But Moyes doesn’t want to sell.If Defoe put in a request, he wouldn’t come cheap, and with Moyes already talking him up saying “he’s a player who has a good few years in him”, I would think they are talking big bucks for a player with no sell on value.
Although he isn’t in Paul Ince territory, he left us when we needed him most, and played for Spuds.COYI

Im pretty sure at the time of his request to leave he was adviced by some mercenary agent praying on an impressionable youngster.
I prefer to forgive & forget rather than hold some childlike grudge against him..

Exactly that, well said. You’re young, an obviously outstanding talent, and your agent who you trust with your whole career says, if you stay here your career and england chances are doomed you have to move, he made the right choice for him at the time and his record shows that.

Would you stay at a poor to average job if someone offered you an amazing career?

3 goals in and all the boohoo crowd will be singing his name every weekend so just stop with the silly grudge and lets get some well needed goals!!

Apart from the request which was rejected he then deliberately got sent off twice consecutively forcing the club to let him go as any further sending off would result in 10 match ban. The net result was we had to sell him cheaply to Spurs, where funny enough he didn’t get any further cards that season. I hated then, I still hate him now, I rate him worse than Ince.

This spoil toerag has no place at WHU, if some managerial idiot signs him as a cheap option in January window I’m sure I won’t be the only one boycotting club while he remains at the club.

  • Big Tone says:

Wahahaha boycotting the club if they sign him.
Grow up you big kid,you sound like a 3 year old who had his sweeties taken from him.

  • mooro66uk says:

I’ve heard it all now. Boycott indeed. Just when we need all the goals and support we can get. If your that fickle, we’re probably better off without you. COYI X
