West Ham chase former Arsenal midfielder

|

West Ham United, Newscastle and Aston Villa are all rumoured to be interested in bringing former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi back to the Premier League in the next transfer window.

Guendouzi has been in excellent form since leaving The Gunners to sign for Marseille and has firmly established himself as part of the French national set-up, gaining seven caps.

The Hammers are looking to replace captain Declan Rice who is expected to leave at the end of the season and former Arsenal midfielder Guendouzi is thought to be an option.

It is thought that Villa would hold an advantage in the transfer race due to Guendouzi working under Unai Emery at Arsenal, with the Spanish manager having signed the midfielder during his stint in charge in north London.

Guendouzi made 82 appearances for the Arsenal, but was given permission to leave following an altercation with ex-Brighton forward Neal Maupay (personally I’d have given him a pay-rise).

Current Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was highly critical of the players attitude and Guendouzi was loaned out to Hertha Berlin and Marseille before a £10m permanent transfer to the French club.

Guendouzi will not be an unfamiliar name to many at West Ham. During an interview with a former West Ham scout it was revealed to Hammers Chat that the player had been recommended to the club when he was a relive unknown.
