West Ham face final hurdle to stage home games

Newham’s Safety Advisory Group will decide whether the London Stadium can be used for West Ham’s five remaining home matches starting on Saturday 20th June.

The all-powerful safety group hold the final decision whether Premier League fixtures can be played at the stadium and they will hold an extraordinary virtual meeting of all stakeholders on Tuesday 16th June just four days from the first West Ham game kicks off.

Stadium safety group stakeholders include Newham Council, TFL, Westfield shopping centre, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, Lendlease, Jones Lang LaSalle, London Legacy Development Corporation, LS185, E20, Met Police, British Transport Police, St Johns Ambulance, Network Rail, South Eastern Trains, the Sports Grounds Safety Agency and West Ham United.

It is Newham council together with the SGSA who grant the safety certificate and they have a duty of care for those use with regards to health and safety.

Prior to the meeting a twelve-foot fence has been erected to shut off the London Stadium island and prevent supporters from congregating directly outside during games.

The meeting will be chaired by Newham’s Sheila Roberts who is responsible for safety and enforcement within the council.
