West Ham fan’s ‘takeover talk’ analysis

|

West Ham fan Steve Day aka ‘Daya’ has nailed it in his detailed assessment of the PAI Capital takeover approach.

Daya – explains that he is no fan of David Sullivan or Karen Brady as he gives his views on the latest takeover talk.

He has analysed the latest exchange played out in the media following  Pai Capital’semail interview with Hammers News.

The Hammers and Cardiff City supporter who claims to have been in football takeovers in the past pointed out his concerns and asked questions of the mystery consortium.

Daya says the whole thing seems very tacky adding no one really knows anything about PAI Capital.

He asks is this takeover for real?

Daya explains he has personally been involved in acquisitions of companies over the years, buying some and selling some and it always kept quiet, you sign a non-disclosure agreement with the other party and you enter into negotiations with the other party, you make you bid privately and do your due diligence and if all is clear you go on to purchase the company or you sell your company. All done privately behind the scenes then you announce it to your clients.

Dayo goes on to forensic examine the Hammer News email interview pointing contradictions, concerns and pertinent questions.

He goes on to say he knows Tony Fernandes who hired Philip Beard at QPR and also helped Sam Hammam in his takeover of Cardiff City saying he understands takeover bids. He also claims he helped bring Adrian to West Ham and once tried to buy a small football club.

I would like better owners than GSB. But I’m not in the anyone but GSB camp. I want owners that will invest in transfer spend and club infrastructure. And also that are committed to improving the stadium.

The Q&A on Hammers News made them sound like a bunch of amateurs that have no clue about West Ham. Transfer budget depending on the cost of buying the club? Don’t bother buying it if you can’t guarantee investment. In response to whether any of them support West Ham were told that, ‘One of the partners has supported West Ham and the English national team since 1986.’ That’s up there with David Gold’s 442 Green Street in the bull**** stakes.

Attempted to say the right things to appease the interviewer but no actual substance in any of the answers. Can’t even get a press release out that no one asked for either. Early signs not looking good.

Prooves Steve Day is just guessing what’s going on and has no idea. He does not have the inside track and is just having a punt on what’s going on.

  • The Cat says:

I agree with you 100% on this one Alan. I make ZERO apologies for the owners that we currently have at the moment and like every man and his dog would prefer owners who can match our dreams and aspirations as supporters.
No One is going to come in, purchase this club and wave a magic wand unless they are a West Ham MAD Billionaire who is looking for a hobby project.
Everything that I have read so far about PAI Capital STINKS, including the No Show Statement promised by this group of “Professionals” yesterday.
Consortiums “Obviously” have no place in football, for very Obvious decision making reasons. The only thing that this faceless group of investors behind PAI Capitals have in common, is a Need to make a Profit…..that’s it!
IF this isn’t obvious to many of our finest, then they need to be woken up from this dream before it becomes a Nightmare. The same people who in their wildest dreams don’t believe that ANYTHING can be worse than what we currently have could be in for a serious shock.

What frustrates me the most about the difference in rhetoric between those who are staunchly GSBOUT and everyone else is on display right here, with these two comments by Alan and The Cat.

Many of our fan base who are part of the latter group express their unhappiness with the owners in reasoned, logical points and are able to control the emotions that they feel against the board by focusing on the wider issues, be it with potential new owners or the way that our club is run or conducts itself in various areas. I haven’t read one comment, in the 2 or 3 years i’ve been following this website (or in other media outlets) by the GSBOUT brigade that i can relate to or that i think is a well thought through point of view. I’m someone who is happy to have his mind changed and happy to admit i’m wrong if presented with facts or opinions that i haven’t encountered or considered (i was against Moyes coming back quite vehemently, for example). But i just haven’t seen any salient points, in general, from those who hate the board so vociferously.

There are many fans’ opinions on this website, in relation to the current situation at our club, be it with the board, management, players or transfers, that, although i don’t always agree with (naturally), are clearly reasoned and considered opinions that i can get on board with or at least understand where the view comes from. There are also those opinions that seem like kneejerk reactions that have no basis in reason. I know that in itself reflects our society in general, it’s been apparent since Brexit and is still apparent through the ignorance of those who boo taking the knee (no, i’m not a Marxist; i doubt most of the boo-ers know what Marxism even means). But any of the GSBOUT brigade’s points just don’t seem to have any substance to their reasoning for a change of board, especially those so desperate as to be pushing for a takeover from a company they literally know nothing about, outside of hatred and anger. Hatred and anger lack substance in a World where reason is king. It comes from one’s own dissatisfaction with one’s situation. Hatred and anger will still exist in you when a new board comes in, it’ll just be channelled into something else (probably how the new board haven’t got the money they promised they had for transfers and sends us into the Championship!)

That’s why you GSBOUT brigade aren’t taken seriously by the rest of us. I’m sure your belligerence comes from a place of love for the club but as supporters we all love the club and we all want what’s best for it. The majority of us, however, try to see the bigger picture and base our points on facts and reason, not blind hatred and anger.

    • Stuart MacLeod says:

Excellent post, totally agree. There’s no doubt we are very vulnerable to an out of the frying… situation here.

    • The Cat says:

Well said Saul, an excellent, well written and well-reasoned post. I have also felt a change in attitude and tone since Brexit. Possibly the dissatisfaction and division within society are also being projected within our fanbase.
There seems to be little or no reasoning with GSBOUT, and my opinions haven’t been challenged by any alternative views on this proposed takeover. Their only mantra is GSBOUT. Some say that they support this club, but seem to have very little interest in the validity of the interested consortium, other than seeing the back of GSB. Painfully one dimensional and short-sighted.
I don’t feel that I have anything in common with GSBOUT and they have said nothing of any real substance to convince me otherwise.
