West Ham game in Manchester called off

|

West Ham United have confirmed that today’s Premier League fixture at Manchester City has been postponed due to safety concerns caused by extreme weather conditions at the Etihad stadium.

A statement from Manchester City said:

“Due to extreme and escalating weather conditions and in the interests of supporter and staff safety, today’s match has been postponed. This decision has been made by Manchester City’s Safety Officer following consultation with Club stakeholders and officials at West Ham United.

“Further information regarding the rescheduling of today’s match will be published in due course.”

Tickets will remain valid for the rearranged fixture. Further details will follow in due course.

Many West Ham supporters are already in Manchester as they were told to travel up early by the club and police. The arrival of storm Ciara has been well known for days and Manchester City will come under heavy criticism for not making the decision much earlier.

i just don’t understand why they didn’t call this off last night. Oh yes, forgot, TV insistence. So once again the supporters come a very distant second place.

As others have said it’s poor timing and hard on our travelling support.
Maybe it will benefit us with embedding the new players and getting Anderson and Yarmolenko back to fitness.

Got as far as Stafford when game called off…..about an hour after ladies rugby and football. WHY so late. Between Sky, VAR and GSB I wonder why I bother!

Not sure if this is a blessing in disquise but then there is never a good time to play them in honesty.
I am sure the likes of Bowen and Soucek who would have been chomping at the bit if selected it is a big downer!! Asy oldum use to say “you can’t change the weather and old age don’t come alone”..how true!!

As my old mum use to say…predicted txt 😤 😤

Well they had a few out injured but as said above- never a good time to play them. Especially away. Only thing occurs to me. If it can’t be rearranged soon, the PL top positions may be sorted by the time it happens. City might be making the CL their priority, & we just might get them 3 days after a tough second leg involving a long journey. Who said that sounds like clutching at straws?

Lets hope they re-arrange it after Liverpool have won the league and just after an away CL game for City. we might stand a chance then !!

  • Davey says:

Disappointing. Weather could have been a leveller. Look at the Scotland-England rugby yesterday. Plus no Sterling. We had more chance of some luck today than any other day.

  • Saul says:

Good weekend for us though as our relegation rivals dropped maximum points. Every cloud, etc, etc
