West Ham join chase for West Brom striker

|

According to John Cross in the Daily Mirror West Ham have joined the battle to sign West Brom striker Salomón Rondón.

28-year-old Rondón is available for £16m thanks to a clause in his contract following West Brom’s relegation and they may have to sell to balance the books. West Ham’s interest comes from incoming boss Manuel Pellegrini who worked with him at Malaga.

The Hammers have reportedly made enquiries on Rondon’s availability as the striker finished the season well despite West Brom’s demise.

Spurs and Chelsea were both interested in January and are still keeping tabs while Cardiff have also been heavily linked with the forward.

Atletico Madrid and Internazionale have also been linked with interest in recent days.

Rondon joined West Brom from Zenit St Petersburg for £12m in 2015 and has scored 28 goals in 102 appearances for the club in all competitions.

i could understand Pele bringing in his own no 2 and 3 etc but i only see that were interested in players who ha has worked with…4 years ago…and these players will take West ham in another level??

This guy is a striker who does not score. Carlton Cole without the engaging personality. Would have been ideal if we had been relegated but surely we can do better than this.

Guys just to confirm, there is no evidence of us going in for Rondon this window. At this point it is pure educated ques because he has worked and done well with Manuel in the past.

  • Carrerageorge says:

I haven’t seen that much of him but 1 in 4 doesn’t seem that great. Is a forward the big priority?

    • colejamesuk123 says:

Yeah, although we should keep in mind he was playing for WestBrom, any strikers would have limited opportunities.

He would be a descent, reserved striker, if Carroll was to leave.

One goal in 3.6 games, awful!

I think we have to be realistic rather than speculate over unfounded rumours.

I hope the first thing Mr P does is cut the flow of rumours over transfers. He can’t stop agents and pundits airing their opinions, but why would we want an aging plodder who has not set the world alight with his goalscoring prowess in the PL. We already have Andy C for god’s sake.

I would prefer signings to be announced when they are done rather than hoo-ha that has gone on for some years.

And why comment on players we have never seen – Dendocker for instance. I have no idea whether he is good bad or indifferent or the slot he would fill in the team.

What we really need is to bin the sentiment over people like Collins and Noble and recognise they are too old and slow for the PL despite their service. Certainly show appreciation but be ruthless as well for the good of the team.

Other teams have exploited our weaknesses for too long – it’s time we turned the screw on them and adopted the mental attitude of winners. If P instils that, then we will step up a level.

He hasn’t even appointed his coaching staff yet, with the World Cup on soon and lots of international friendlies perhaps he is trying to target players that aren’t injured and will be fit at the start of next season.
