West Ham’s Meg makes me proud to be a Hammer

|

By Hugh Southon

I’m extraordinarily proud to be a Hammer this morning – not for footballing reasons but for the humanity and care that they are showing to guys and girls who fall into the senior citizen category.

I have NOT BEEN ASKED TO WRITE this by anybody in the media department,  directors or owners or anybody else. A gently spoken young lady called Meg (second left above) takes all the credit.

I’m not good with voicemail but on checking it this morning I found I had received two calls over the last two weeks from her asking if I was okay and whether there was any help the club could offer.

I’m absolutely fine but this was such a proper human gesture – more important than football itself. Just decency in the extreme and well done to whoever made this decision and all those involved in ensuring we are all okay.

I rang back today to thank the club and was told they were contacting all their senior fans and that they had enjoyed some fabulous conversations along with some sad ones where loved ones had been lost.

This club supported me through the passing of my wife and is now showing its heart in supporting all of those of a certain age caught in the middle of a national health crisis.

Thank you West Ham and thank you Meg

God bless. you
