Will £17m winger get another start under Moyes?

|

West Ham United had high hopes when Maxwell Cornet was signed for £17m from Burnley. He was seen as the solution to West Ham’s left-wing woes, and David Moyes believed he had found a Premier League-ready player. However, as time has passed, it has become clear the wingers career with the Hammers might be coming to an end.

During the League Cup game against Lincoln City,  Cornet was given a rare opportunity to prove himself. Unfortunately for him, the statistics from that game painted a grim picture. He lost possession of the ball eight times, failed to register a single key pass or shot, and completed just one of his three crosses. These numbers raised questions about his ability to contribute to the team.

Will £17m winger get another start under Moyes?

Last seasons injury didn’t help Cornet’s case either. He spent about five months sidelined with a calf injury, during which he chose to seek treatment in France rather than in the UK, a decision that didn’t sit well with the club. This extended absence made it even harder for him to regain Moyes’ trust.

Winger will find it hard to convince Moyes

David Moyes is known for taking time to trust players, and once he does, he’ll use them consistently. Unfortunately for Cornet, it seems he lost that trust and hasn’t been able to win it back. Players like Said Benrahma, who struggled initially, have managed to gain the manager’s confidence over a very long period of time.

Cornet’s missed opportunity against Lincoln City might be the final nail in the coffin for his West Ham career. With a lack of upcoming games where he can prove himself and the African Cup of Nations approaching, his chances of redemption seem slim.

While some may suggest a January transfer, it’s unlikely that any club would be willing to buy him given his current situation. West Ham might have to accept a significant loss on their investment if they decide to sell him in the future.

His WH career is coming to and end because of Moyes. Not given the same oportunities as the woeful soucek and under performing benrahna. Never given a run when it was obvious Bowen was having a poor game. He is quality yet another talented player totally misused and mismanaged by Moyes. He will do the same to Kudus even though he is a better player than Bowen. He will continue to play soucek even though alvarez and fornals are far better players and make the team tick. I just hope Moyes has the iq to be more creative in his team selections.
