Wilshere: “That’s why they’re the champions”

|

Post match excuses for defeat are usually there to be mocked by disappointed fans but it’s hard to take exception to anything Jack Wilshere has to say via the official site this morning .

The midfielder has had far too many issues in his career to see one defeat as the end of the world and PROBABLY like the rest of us should see the match at Brighton as the start of the season.

That the Seagulls won 3-0 away at Watford on Saturday is a scoreline that should ensure nothing is taken for granted and from the little I saw of the highlights they do look a bit tasty.

The disappointment on Saturday of course was intense after all the high hopes that had preceded it but at least the slow starting problem had been fixed looked fixed which was of course the problem at Brighton and various other places.

Just a shame that it was Manchester City in front of us who then adjusted and sadly put the Irons formly in their place.

Wilshere takes a realistic view saying at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/august/12-august/wilshere-we-regroup-put-line-under-it-and-go-again: “People can react how they want, but we need to be strong and we’ve got strong spirit and mentality in that dressing room.

“We need to regroup, have a look at it on Monday and then get ready for Brighton, as that’s now when our season starts.

“We need to take the positives and then draw a line under it, because we did compete, for me, with the best team in the league for the first 30 minutes.

“We were a bit unlucky to concede that first goal and then it’s difficult when you’re chasing the game against a team like that, because you open up spaces and they go into them and they were ruthless.

He added: “I thought Seb (Haller) did well and Pablo (Fornals) did well when he came on. I said to them that they’ll probably not play in a game tougher than that in this league.

“There are different tests and difficult tests still to come but, against them, they make it so difficult as they make little passes and pull you out of position for someone else to go in. That’s why they’re the champions.

“It’ll be a different game at Brighton on Saturday and we have to prepare for that. We’ve got a strong spirit, so we put a line under it and go again.

Hugh, I cant believe the club would allow or ask Wilshere to speak on the website about the city game. He had a nightmare and proved once again that he no longer has the pace or stamina to play PL football. He was ok preseason as the tempo of the games were low key but people get carried away by preseason. He was a terrible signing and I trust Pelle is not one of these managers who is stubborn and keeps playing Wilshere to justify his signing. We have lost every single game he has started for us in the PL. Enough is enough. It should be Haller or Rice who should have been on the website commenting on the game. Terrible PR by the club imo.

So you judge him on that performance which as he mentioned, is the hardest game of the season especially on the opening day? He caught the eye in preseason and the next four games will give a real indication to where he’s at. Also I don’t see anything wrong with him being on the website? He’s always been a fan and I believe he’ll be instrumental this season, providing injuries don’t take over.

He was very good in pre-season and played well against Man City until he came off.

    • James says:

Don’t worrey Johnham hasn’t an agenda agains Wilshere. I actually don’t think he did anything wrong that game, we looked worst when he came off tbh.
