West Ham insiders are concerned over Kurt Zouma’s injury and both he and Ben Johnson now face scans today rather than tomorrow (Mon).
The full back is believed to have a hammie which could keep him out for up to a month if that’s the case but there are fears it could be worse for Zouma.
Nobody is prepared to make any firm predictions until after the scan but the fact that the central defender heard a pop in his knee has given cause for concern given a previous knee issue at Chelsea.
As reported by Claret and Hugh at the time, there were concerns over an existing knee injury when Zouma went through his medical for the Hammers.
Five years ago Zouma was ruled out for around six months after scans revealed the centre-back sustained damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a game bettween Chelsea and Manchester United.
Zouma had leapt beyond Marouane Fellaini to hack a loose ball upfield just after the interval at Stamford Bridge, with his right leg buckling grotesquely at the knee as he landed.
Medical scans afterwards revealed the anterior cruciate ligament had ruptured upon impact and the defender had immediate surgery once the swelling subsided.
