A freedom of information request has revealed that the London Stadium owners, E20 Stadium LLP spent £11,000 on goal posts and corner flags for the stadium. They spent a further £910,570 relaying the specialist Desso Grassmaster pitch this year.
The same request reveals that the stadium owners have budgeted £655,000 per season for policing, ambulance and security services (which is thought to include stewarding)
We have been told by one London Stadium steward who wishes to remain nameless that roughly 600 Stewards are on duty on match days. The average London steward wage depends on whether they have a SIA license or not. Those without a license are paid £8.07 per hour with those with security accreditation get the uplifted £9.00 per hour. On average a steward will be paid to work 7 hours per match day.
A further freedom of information request has revealed the Stadium Operator’s 25 year agreement with Stadium owners Newham council and LLDC. The 354 page agreement reveals every detail of the operator”s responsibilities and liabilities although financial details have been redacted.
The agreement is available to download and read from HERE
Perhaps here lies part of the problem? E20 have budgeted 655k, but taking 600 stewards at an average of 8.50 an hour for 7 hours a game and let’s say 23 games is over 820k and that’s without ambulance or police. Perhaps they tried to do it on the “cheap” to stay in budget initially? Now they will have to pay police come December and pay to put the Airwave back in. Looks like they won’t have much left out of the first seasons 2.5m rent!
