6-2 as Moyes does what he said he’d do!

Ben Johnson showing vast improvement

West Ham’s unbeaten  pre-season thus far demonstrates clearly the work that manager David Moyes has been putting into  the under 23 protegees with two in particular looking serious business.

Yes, new signings are required for sure but this afternoon’s performance against Celtic showed clearly there’s plenty to enjoy at West Ham right now.

And from what we have see so far it seem obvious that Conor Coventry and the quickly improving Ben Johnson are likely to be regular first team squad members.

Moyes has said many times he wants a young and energetic West Ham – it’s starting to happen before our eyes. How good too to see  Armstrong Oko-Flex get himself on the score sheet with a very impressive strike.

The squad were good against Reading in midweek. This afternoon – and yes we don’t need telling they are [re-season games – the level of performance was exceptional.

Essentially they look fit, determined and ready for as testing a season as many of them will have faced at West Ham United or probably anywhere else. It hasn’t always been that way pre-season has it???

The intensity of these pre-season games has been increasing and the excellent level achieved on Wednesday evening against Reading was passed again today and although it’s hard to know how good Celtic are, SIX GOALS against any team is a pretty fine achievement.

That’s now 13 games from five games without having the services of our top three players who in reality are three of the best in the Premier League.

We all understand the frustrations of some who want signings – and want now – but I trust David Moyes and what I am seeing is a man who is looking after things in the manner he promised – building that  young and energetic squad.

New signings will be made but in the meantime let’s enjoy what we are watching as the squad develops.

Lovely to see the natural attacking play of our team today. Used to be called ‘Route One’ when moving the ball forward. Served us well last season. Soucek, Rice and Coufal play this game very well and will fit in seamlessly. Entertaining stuff from Wee Davey’s side. Looking forward to more of the same in Premier League, Europe and FA Cup this term.
