Moyes looks to make signing permanent

|

David Moyes remain keen on a permanent deal for on loan Watford defender Craig Dawson, who could be available for just £3million in the summer.

The 30-year-old joined Watford from West Brom in a £5.5million deal ahead of last season, which resulted in relegation for the Hornets.

Dawson featured 29 times in the Premier League last season and scored twice before returning to the top flight with West Ham on loan earlier in the season.

He’s now made 10 Premier League appearances for the Hammers and scored twice.

Dawson has been one of the signings of the season and only came about when the manager failed in his £30m pursuit of Burnley defender James Tarkowski

West Ham fans were disappointed when Dawson was first announced believing the signing lacked ambition but once again David Moyes proved he has an eye for talent building on success of Czech mates Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal.

Your report omits a critical matter
West Ham had a one time “option” to purchase in January and obvious negotiation leverage until the day the loan ends – however if the loan ends and they have not purchased then Watford will sell Dawson to another club and the price clearly will not be £3m then
This is why Moyes wants to get it done now as if it gets to say May then he will either have to pay more or he will lose him to a promoted team or a lower half side who need a leader

    • You obviously have different contacts to ours. The option to buy is there at end of season as is usually the case. I’d like to see the link you have based your comment on

He’s been immense. Doesn’t seem to join in on the fun celebrations (too cool?) but I hope he really feels like one of the team. Real mature talent.

Moyes should have made Dawson permanent in Jan. It is clear as daylight to see what Dawson means to WH and how he has improved our defense.
As much as I like Said B, his permanency could have waited till end of season.
Sadly, with most huge WH contracts signed, we see a drop in performance by the player. Hope this never happens again.
Nonetheless, hope and pray for get Dawson permanently.
    Coyi. God bless West Ham.

Interestingly, some fans ridiculed this loan deal. I like to think that managers like Moyes know what they are doing much than we “armchair” managers. After all, managers are there to improve players and ensure the players fit into the system.
Anyway, IMHO Dawson should be signed up along with Lingard.

I thought we had an option for Dawson to make Permanent in summer, Watford just wanted to make permanent in January. We could of easily done it especially since we didn’t buy anyone but we made Benny permanent which was going to happen regardless.
I hope we can still get Dawson for £3m & from what I read when signed we have the option still. It’s a no-brainer & I would give Balbuena a new deal too. A lot are saying let go some wanted to sell in summer but at 29 still has good years left & not on huge wages. Balbuena & Dawson you want in your squad espet if we make Europa with Oggy & Diop & Baptiste Alves etc coming up not to mention Creswell & Coufal who can play in back 3 & Johnson can cover CB. I think CB is least of our worries now. Balbuena always puts In shift & only lost his place bc a knock & Dawson grabbed it. Balbuena has never moaned wants to stay works hard & same for Dawson, we’ve actually been lucky with injuries but we need at least 4 CBs experienced & we have them. Replacing Balbuena or Dawson would cost a lot & they will hopefully help the likes ot Alves who is from Brazil like Balbuena & Dawson Baptiste & Alese.

Dawson was welcomed by many of us. Tarkowski was over priced.
Benrhama is a work in progress, bu can certainly impress at times.
Will need both if we play Europe.

Agree I wasn’t against Dawson especially with loan & option. I didn’t think he would have impact he has tbh but has been immense & worth the cover on loan. Now proven more then worth the £3m which will allow us hopefully yo focus on two strikers hopefully one versatile like an Armstrong & one out & out the a CM is what we need the most imo. I rate all our senior CBs to do a job Dawson Oggy Balbuena Diop & then have Baptiste Alves & Alese. So I don’t think we need a CB right now see how kids do later & then maybe could use a left footed CB. If we finish in Europa or UCL we will probably need more like 5 players especially if Yarmo who I think we should sell or give for free if can get wages off then Anderson & maybe Lanzini from what I’m reading. Be a an 18 man squad will need more if playing in Europe.
