Declan/Oggy updates for Everton clash

|

David Moyes is hopeful he will have both Declan Rice and Angelo Ogbonna back for the game against Everton at the London Stadium next week.

Declan failed a late fitness test ahead of last night’s game at Burnley whilst Oggy took a knock in the game against Burnley although he’s expected to recover for the Toffees visit.

following his injury whilst on England international duty.

Craig Dawson returned from suspension to replace Oggy but should the Italian be fit for the weekend it seem almost certain he will replace Issa Diop who wasn’t at his best last night.

Mark Noble is likely to be unavailable for a fortnight after sustaining a calf injury but such was the performance by the likes of Lanzini and Benrahma against Burnley the manager won’t be over-worrying about the situation.

Anybody know how Yarmelenko is doing, he was on the bench vs Chelsea, nowhere to be seen yesterday?

Every time the ball goes anywhere near Diop he looks really nervous. He got beaten twice last night for simple balls played over the top and failed to deal with both. Dawson did ok but I’m not convinced by him. We need Oggy back ASAP and next season need to partner him with another decent CB.

You’re right about Diop but wrong about Dawson. He will be great partnered with Oggy!
Diop is absolutely shocking on a regular basis while Dawson reminds me of Ginger peel in his commitment

Diop is young and still learning. CBs take time to fully develop. Not defending a poor performance but Johnny Evans was let go early and is as good as any now.
Oggy and Dawson are excellent mentors for him.

I can see where you’re coming from PB, Diop is still very young for a CB, he’s learning on the job, not many teams play like Burnley so hopefully he’s learned a lot about positioning and reading the flight of long balls over the top. For me he’s a diamond in the rough, give him a couple more seasons of 25 games plus European football and we’ll have a real asset.
