There was also individual praise for Ben Johnson and the rather more experienced Michail Antonio was back to his best. “I thought Ben did well,” insisted Moyes.
“He has potential to step up. Today he got forward and crossed it, and made some brilliant tackles. He did a really good job, especially in the first half going forward and joining in and being part of the attacks. He has a lot of potential and we want him to keep improving.
“Michail probably had his worst last ten minutes [in the closing stages] but I have to say he had his best 80 minutes for a while.
“He worked brilliantly for the team, got an assist and created chances. Their ‘keeper made a good save from him in the first half. I thought he looked closer to scoring today so I was pleased with him.”
I cannot fathom for one minute that Moyes truly believes that Antonio had a good 80 minutes, so either I was watching a different game to him or he is covering up the fact that he doesn’t want to hook him even though he was having another mare.
Cannot argue with the comments on Zouma and Johnson who were superb, but Mikey is letting us down and should be rested.
Antonio – very good at footrace stuff, but not at hold up play. Must play in the box not 20 yards outside – the team needs to treat him like Vardy – play up to feet only or over the top for a chase.
