Tears…emotion…joy and victory – a Yarmo emotional roller coaster: this was a script that only football can write

I haven’t cried at a football match since we won the World Cup and Bob raised it aloft inside Wembley stadium 56 years ago!

But I did today and I don’t believe I was alone as Andriy Yarmolenko returned from his Ukranian agonies and scored a fabulous goal setting us on our way to a 2-1 win.

The guy had received a magnificent standing ovation from the crowd when arriving as a sub and then went on to provide a moment which only football can supply.

Write that sort of script and people will look at you gone out but this amazing game we call football – when it goes as it did today – brings joy in victory and emotional overload as Ukraine is currently being raised to the ground.

The two walk hand in hand and tear in tear.

That it was the highpoint of the season for me because not only was it Yarmo doing the scoring but doing so in great fashion – it really was one terrific goal which had taken so long coming.

Sadly the lows were injuries to Antonio and Cresswell which may rule them out of the Thursday night game and leave us relying on the likes of Vlasic, Fredericks and young Ben Johnson.

However, that we won the game when the team was looking at its most threadbare is encouraging and in his current form Mikey may not be the guy who can serve it up to the Spaniards anyway.

Villa are a decent team but despite the late goal couldn’t dent a record which has now left David Moyes unbeaten in 12 games against them and ensured we remained in sixth place.

It was one heck of a 90 minutes and despite all the problems this is a squad that never knows when it’s beaten.

Thank lads and Yarmo …we are so proud and pleased for you!
