Any hopes that David Moyes may still be harbouring of signing Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips look to be heading out of the window very quickly.

We have reported earlier that the manager is making Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse his priority midfield signing which throws a question over the announcement that in the winter we were trying to get Phillips !

However, let’s assume that was the case and had Leeds been relegated it might have been easier except for the other team in claret and blue, Aston Villa.

Word has been around for a few days that the midlands outfit were keen and new reports appear to suggest that it’s now very likely.

The reason for that – in a new twist – may well be that according word inside the game Phillips is about to change agents and guess what?

It’s said that he’s going to the firm that looks after Villa boss Steven Gerrard!

I think the Phillips bid was never going to materialise it was all for show. However if it were possible let’s do it !

I’d also be worried about his injury record. Kalvin Phillips is a great player, but we haven’t had much luck with players who get injured a lot in the past.
