Exclusive: Shock news on Cresswell injury

|

CressieExclusive

West Ham are deeply concerned that Aaron Cresswell’s injury – reported as minor by some sources – could keep him out of action for anything up to six months.

We learned this morning from our top source that early reports from unconfirmed Twitter sources in Austria are wide of the mark and that the left back is in trouble with a knee injury.

He will continue to undergo examination and details of the precise nature of the injury are sketchy but we were told the medics are concerned at the problem.

Cresswell was the victim of an awful challenge late in the game against Karlsruher yesterday and immediately hobbled off amid vague reports from a correspondent that he may or may not make it for the Europa Cup clash next week.

However, we were contacted by our source this morning who told us the extent of the problem.

He said:“It’s not a minor injury and it could keep him out for a minimum of four weeks and and a maximum of six months.

“It’s very early days so impossible to be precise but it is a nasty knee injury and we will give more details as they become available.”

What cover do we have at LB, Hugh?

  • NESTACRES says:

    We dont.

  • markro says:

…or will Slaven go with three CBs (Ogbonna, Reid and Norveidt) with Antonio as Right Wing Back and possibly Tore or Feghouli on the Left?

  • markro says:

    Adrian

    Norveidt
    Reid
    Ogbonna

Is Page up to the task yet?

  • EvanEvans says:

  • markro says:

The kid is made of steel,he will be back sooner rather than later I suspect 🙂

  • spyinthesky says:

Yes it’s one of those positions where the club felt there was no rush because he is never unfit. Well that policy worked out well it seems. Striker may be the primary need but one would hope that other concerns are considered important enough to give a modicum of interest. Sadly not it seems.

    • Antman says:

I would consider a loan signing to be the best option. You are not going to get a quality LB in on a permanent because as soon as Cressie is fit the new guy sure as hell aint going to sit on the bench.

  • bubs says:

Page or Hendrie if we bring him back,
    Reid,
That’s why we need cover at the back,or are we going to convert a winger, how’s Tore at full back
Maybe paying €5 million for Hutchinson was not a bad idea afterwards,or pushing more for Pied but who would have thought that are one and only left back could get injured,

  • Ray says:

Oggy to fill in I think. He can step in to the breach no problem. Also Page if Slaven feels he is up to the task.Hendrie to be recalled?
We have cover,it is not like the cupboard is empty because we have no big name superstar in reserve as a lb.Let other players take their chance & opportunity if required.

  • johnthefish says:

Don’t Panic. Euro 2016 star contracted till 2018.
    Bring on the Ginger Pele!

  • starlet55 says:

already loaned out hendrie could prove to be costly

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Should have kept JOB he would have been perfect 😉 Hugh stop referring to this as an awful tackle or watch it back, Cresswell is the one that kicks the ball, the other guy blocks the tackle there is no contact directly between Cresswell and the other guy it was just unfortunate that Cresswell was at 45 degrees to him and has hopefully just strained a ligament, fingers crossed for him anyway as he doesn’t deserve an injury.

  • BrookingtoDevonshire says:

I say give Page a game on Thursday there. Did well last year and with a back four of Byram,Reid,Kouyate,Page in the first leg.
This gives us more time to consider our options.
Put our strongest team out now and put the tie to bed.

    Randolph
    Byram, Reid ,Kouyate, Page
    Antonio Noble Nordveit Feghouli
    Carroll Valencia

    subs: Adrian,Burke,Oxford,Tore,Fletcher,Samuelsen,Cullen/Obiang

Burke or Oxford could swap in for Kouyate, who then slot’s into midfield
