Spurs fans have asked West Ham fans to put aside their rivalry and join them in one minute’s applause for Aaron Lennon in the 7th minute of this evening’s London Derby to raise awareness for mental heath.
Everton player Lennon has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act after a 20-minute stand-off with police at the side of a busy motorway. The former Spurs and England midfielder, who has not played since February 11th, was picked up by cops in Salford, close to the M602 last Sunday over concerns for his own welfare.
West Ham says they are aware of the fan social media campaign to raise awareness and are ready to put up a photo of Lennon if West Ham fans spontaneously join in with the tribute to Lennon.
The message from the Spurs campaign says: “During our match at the London Stadium at West Ham on Friday night. We are asking all fans to hold a minute’s applause on the 7th minute as a show of support for Aaron Lennon and to help raise awareness of mental heath within the beautiful game. Please share with all your West Ham supporting friends. Wishing you a speedy recovery Aaron.”
A club source told Claret and Hugh: “Although there is no official backing for the tribute we will be ready to put a photo up on the big screens if West Ham supporters joined in” adding “It would be a nice touch if it happened”

How long before we have a match in which we have a minutes silence for some atrocity some place on earth then a minutes applause every 20 mins for somebody who has died or is a little poorly with a maybe a group hug on 90 mins to commemorate Upton Park or something?
I wish Lennon well I really do but these shows of compassion have to end it’s a football match for gawds sake. Of course having said that being half sheep and half sealoin, baaaa arf arf, I’ll clap if the others do around me 😆😆
Have to agree with you. While it’s a shame that Lennon is facing some mental health issues, he hasn’t died or been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Guess the cynical/sarcastic West Ham supporter of years past has been replaced by a kinder, more sensitive version…
It is a little bit unusual but he is clearly going through a tough time and knowing that he has support may help him, it won’t cost us anything other than a bit of effort for 60 seconds, then we can channel that energy into tonking the Spuds and watching them choke again COYI !!!
Actually shocked by John’s comment. Mens mental health is always swept under the carpet this is a great way to have it noted at a game and a chance to offer some solidarity to a great player who very obvioysly needs a lot of support right now. Clapping for 1 minute wont kill anyone will it.

I think you miss my point mate. It is that we have too many minute silences, minutes applause and general love ins these days. It’s gone bonkers. I want to go to a football match not a wake. I also say I feel for the lad and I really don’t need telling how serious mental health is and lastly I’ll clap anyway as I say and really it’s no effort on my part at all.
