Barkley rumour rubbished

|
Ross-Barkley-Everton-1024_2979633Reports in the Sunday Star repeated by other papers this morning that the Hammers are lining up a bid for Roos Barkley are likely to be pure speculation as West Ham concentrates on striker targets.Barkley will enter the final year of his Everton contract next month and is yet to agree terms over an extension at Goodison Park.

The England international has been linked with Spurs and Manchester United in recent weeks, with Everton said to value his services at £50million.

And now the Daily Star Sunday claim West Ham are the latest club to show an interest in the 23-year-old midfielder.

RR Very Low (1)The report claims Hammers manager Slaven Bilic is willing to meet Barkley’s hefty £140,000-a-week wage demands – double his current pay packet.Everton are said to have targeted Swansea talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson as a potential replacement for Barkley.

I think we can put this down to some creative journalism by the Star, West Ham is unlikely to look at any midfielders unless a regular first team midfielder leaves in the summer.

In a choice between Sigurdsson and Barclay I would take Sigurdsson every day of the week, Barclay has been better this season but he isn’t reliable yet and he is not worth the reported fee.

So, to rewrite your headline ‘Barkley rumour rubbished… by me’

  • Stan The Man says:

Didnt you know Sean is in charge of player recruitment Iron man lol

  • Our senior sources have repeatedly confirmed no over the past few days that they are only interested in strikers. Theyhave said they have no interest in goal keepers, midfielders or defenders.

Things are change of course but only if someone like Lanzini or Ayew left the company Andy that is very unlikely to happen. It ain’t rocket science. We don’t t have to check every rubbish rumour with our sources.

If Darren Lewis had written it, it would be different but it is the daily star. Case closed lol 😉

    • Stan The Man says:

Young Sean i never doubt your wise words.I was only pulling your chain lol

  • IronMan says:

Sorry Sean, I pulled you up because in the current Brexitty climate of fake news and ‘weasel words’ I was looking for the source… not the source of the rumour but the source rubbishing the rumour. You’ve now explained the logic. Thanks.

Glad that we are not interested in Barclay, but not happy with the statement that we are not looking at other positions. I am ok with our keepers but if we had the chance to sign Joe Hart, I would let one of them leave – preferably Randolph. I believe we need another centre half, I like the Hull centre half as he could play in a back 3. Top potential who I would love to sign. I believe we need Sigurdsson to go to the next level. Then two strikers either Martial or Bathusya and spend whatever it takes. Then an up and coming striker like this guy Success from Watford.

If Barkley is worth 50million then there is definitely something wrong with the whole transfer set up . Glad it’s a non-starter . Seen kids in the park on a Sunday and Pub players better than Barkley . Another case of Clubs wanting to offload for exorbitant transfer fees .
The only player I ever saw worth that money was Trevor Francis for 1 million .( even then we could see things we’re getting stupid ) . If West Ham were to ask that kind of crazy money ( 50 million ) for mediocre players we wouldn’t shift nobody . Reality must surely , at some stage , take hold .
I want to see West Ham grow and compete but , for that crazy money it’s just not worth it.

He won’t go for £50M Kevin. It will be much less I think. People are saying he would not join us. He wants a top 6 club. But they miss why he wants to move away from Liverpool and indeed Manchester and the Northwest. He’s not popular and he has fallen foul of some nasty people. I know this to be a fact via a Scouse pal. So that excludes 4 of the top 7 clubs. It’s a bit of a Payet situation and I bet he leaves for less than £25M

I’d take Jack Wiltshire over Barclay myself. He has it all to prove, would be cheap and has a West Ham family.

I think Iron Man raises an interesting point. I understand C&H in the main report news from across the media be that the official site or from the daily rags and we are all grateful for that as it gives us something to talk (moan) about. That’s fair enough but they (C&H) then rely on their sources close to the club to verify that news and that might be “our top source” who I’m guessing might be a certain owner or “one of our senior sources” who might be someone linked with the club, maybe an agent, or employee or maybe an insider, maybe even someone like Darren Lewis.

Now then, at a time when West Ham have said they want to work beneath the radar in terms of their dealings, not least because of our fans complaining when Sullivan goes public (just something else to moan about imo) surely C&H is going to get a lot of denials, for instances when the rumour surfaced that Itchy******** was flying back to the UK from the Nigerian squad for a medical Sullivan is hardly likely to say “yeah Hughie we have him booked in on Tuesday for a medical” I actually only think the Zabablatta deal was announced after the paperwork was signed and that signed 2/3 days before we saw confirmation and the shirt was adorned.

So, what I’m saying is, in the case of Barclay and Pickford, and indeed Bats and Defoe, they would say that wouldn’t they? I’m not knocking C&H in any way as I quite like it this way but I kind of think our signings are going to come out of the blue this year.
