Cresswell: ‘We didn’t react well’

|

Aaron Cresswell has admitted that he is looking over his shoulder at the relegation places again.

The left back was disappointed with the awful display at Brighton yesterday saying: “The lad [Izquierdo] put one in the top corner in the second half and to be fair to him, it’s a great finish, but we didn’t react well to that. We didn’t look like scoring in the second half

“We had a bad start but we had spells in the first half where we did well and had a few chances. We didn’t get the rub of the green though and second half we didn’t react to the set-backs we suffered.”

And with the Hammers now just three points above the drop-zone he added: “It’s really tight down there. You win one and lose the next week, and you’re right back in it.

“We need to stick together and pull in one direction now and go into every game and try to get maximum points. We need to keep pushing up.

“All season has been up and down and when you lose, you think you’re out of it. But we have to focus on each game as it comes and try to push up for the rest of the season.”

‘Doubled’ by Newcastle & now Brighton. Embarrassing. We were all saying that the run of games after Spurs would be key to surviving. Although that is the first defeat the results have been disappointing. We are going to need some points from the games against the top sides-if we carry on like this against the strugglers we would need to WIN most of the ‘ tough’ games.

I agree , 64 . Embarrassing is the right word for it . However , given our injury and suspension problems we haven’t done so bad as it appears . We are definitely going to pick up with players returning from Injury . Anautovic & Antonio should both be available for the must win game against Watford , so , fingers crossed .

Brighton wanted it more second half.Football is as much a mental game as physical.
The last fifteen minutes of the first half we were back in the game and looking good, then we come out for the second half and we just switched off and we have been doing this all season.

No pace , no creativity , pretty much the same problem for the last 18 months or so ?
Bottom line is will the gamble of not strengthening the midfield and defence pay off ?
This team is relegation fodder , the last 3 games in particular shows it as it is , simply not good enough ! Even when players come back its a not a guarantee they will perform being not match fit ! Antonio being a prime example !!
Zaba, , Collins , noble , fonte, cresswell, kouyate, all have a pace issue or defensive flaws !
Both in some cases because pace does that, it takes away a huge part of defending ! The side in general as a result of this can’t shut players down which is why we allow teams on to us , basically we can’t do it ! That’s why Moyes is playing that way , he has no choice but he neither the board have addressed the problem ! Its a lottery ! Its a problem , its not good enough ! It says it all when their hopes are put on the shoulders of two players coming back ?
All because they haven’t strengthened in the last 18 months even though it was obvious lack of class and numbers plus pace were the problem !!! Watford ain a gimme , probably another injury waiting to happen against a very physical side !! In fact all the teams in the relegation battle start the filth game after Xmas , something we as a club never adopt or compete with!
All we can do is hope our boys man up and get lucky ! Its a problem !!😟

Hard to disagree , Laz . The thing that concerns me more than anything else is the apparent lack of class . And insufficient Pride in the Badge ( which I must say is rather horrible and plain ) and the shirt on Thier backs . ….. ? Time for the board to sell up and find a richer ownership ?,,,, probably .
Remember when the likes of Chelsea , Man City , Spurs were just like us ??? I Do .
