PlayerWatch on Edi Fernandez

|

ClaretandHugh’s PlayerWatch reporter Danny Leach kept his eyes on young midfielder Edi Fernandez this afternoon and it wasn’t always a pretty sight.

After a long spell out injured he comes under the spotlight today retaining his place on the team after an impressive performance against Southampton after coming on for the injured Antonio.

36 – Makes a powerful cross on the right hand side but Azpilicueta intervenes as no West Ham player is in the box

40 – A fails to make a one-two with Mario in midfield as the return pass is blocked by Rudiger

40 – Makes a successful one-two with Kouyaté in midfield

50 – Fails to catch up with Fabregas who crosses in on the edge of the box but fortunately Hart collects the ball

53 – Makes a sliding tackle on Willian but the ball deflects off him and goes to Hazard

69 – He is substituted for Chicharito and is applauded by the away support

Verdict – 5He had a great chance today to follow up from a great performance last week but he did not grasp it at all. The Chelsea midfield over-ran him and for most of the match he was ball watching. While not awful he did not contribute in midfield as much as Mario, Kouyaté or Noble and was sacrificed to accommodate another attacker being Chicharito.
