Arnautovic set for a long Hammers stay

|

Marko Arnautovic is set to lead the attack against Leicester City tomorrow and once again we sit with fingers crossed that the real Arnie will show up.

He isn’t quite at the zero from hero stage just yet but we do need to a resurgence of the old form because my view is he’s going to be around for a long while yet.

He has another four years on his West Ham United contract and there are reasons for believing he will see every one of them out.

The additional one year deal he signed in the winter after the Chinese saga means he will likely be around until 2023 and for that his critics can blame his brother!

At his best Arnie is of course a tremendous asset…at his worst he’s a player who, by now, many clubs would fight away from for ‘disruptive’ reasons as demonstrated so graphically with us in January.

Just as we became heartily sick of his brother’s antics in the winter, which appeared to be acceptable to the player, other clubs will take a look and probably mutter: “Don’t need it.”

Then there’s his age….once a player hits 30 his valuation decreases relatively rapidly and with the extra baggage Arnie carries with him, he would not be easy to sell .

Short of another bid from China, there seems little chance of a major club coming in for the player so we all need to get used to the idea that although he’s a very difficult individual at times, he’s our difficult individual and one we need to see back to his very best like NOW!

Unless he has a blistering end of season I do not see how.Pelle will surely have a new strike force come next season, and he will be a bit part player unless China calls again.

  • Dom says:

Did his brother give him the extra year on his contract? I would have thought he’d have given him better terms.

Hopefully Danijel will invest big in the squad this summer.

  • Tank says:

Who in hell’s name offered him that extension to his contract.

He’s a disruptive influence and he hasn’t been the same player since

  • Hollywood Hammer says:

When was the last time He had a good game, coz I can’t remember.

  • Philip Osborne says:

On the money Tank. The man is Toxic. I have said in many previous posts that this guy is bad news and should have been sold in January. Love Pelle but he got this one badly wrong. If he starts tomorrow I am praying that he proves me wrong and scores a goal or two.

If he is around more than a season it will be because he won’t be able to earn the wages anywhere else, a leopard doesn’t change its spots, his brother will begin stirring things up as he has done at numerous times in Arnie’s career. We aren’t paying him what he could be earning in China and I hope they come back in for him anything above £40m would be acceptable for me so that we could buy a decent replacement.

Duvan Zapata would be my favoured choice, Maxi Gomez also as the two to replace Arnie, Hernandez, Carroll and Perez.

  • JRS says:

I don’t think Pellegrini even wanted to give him extension. Reward him with even longer contract & pay raise for wanted move. Think that was the Davids, Sully especially. Arnie was great in 2018 but since all that he has been bad looks like the old Arnie who was on & off but no just off. But he goes & scores two for Austria…..
Honestly with all the talk Chic could be sold for £10m he is the only one of the lot I would keep. He has played well even when not scoring even when not getting regular run & scored more then Arnie. And he is best with 2 up front or a #10 to play right off him which we haven’t really had.
Sell Perez to LA Liga £3-4m Sell Arnie even if get £25m back to China, Carroll is off & keep Antonio who can cover if needed but solid RW or LW too.

I think Arnie wants move he keeps getting ‘ill’ & his brother stirs up trouble this is why I’d don’t want to sign him to begin with but he came good was best year of his career def most consistent & he ruined it for ‘titles’ in China. No top 6 is coming in for him & China won’t offer more then what they did bc he has been lackluster.
*** Another reason we should stop signing older players on 4-5 year deals even Yarmo I like him but 4yr deal at 29 w 1yr extension injured on £100k.
Cahill is a big no. I’m all for a free but wages have to be right & age. And we can’t afford anymore injury prone players.

I think that the new contract was to try and push his price up – but the move could backfire

Hopefully China or MLS might still be interested or Arnie will surprise us all and really show a more mature side

  • Stubbo says:

Pellegrini’s setup doesn’t suit Arnie in the way Moyes’s setup did.

Hitting him early and isolating him against a centre back was perfect for him.

The slow build up with his back to goal and defenders sitting deep doesn’t utilise what he’s good at.

No surprise even before China saga his only decent games were where we played a quick counter attack game against the bigger sides.

Not a natural striker, nor consistent wide man. Bad attitude generally, and off form. Going nowhere and not what this manager needs.

  • Far West Hammer says:

Clearly, we need to bring Moyes back. He’s the only one who can get the best out of Arnie. #moyesin
