Campaign to save Bobby Moore subway mural

|

One man has started a personal crusade against Brent council to save a football mural close to Wembley in the Bobby Moore Bridge subway.

Philip Grant has written multiple letters to the council, filing freedom of information and whistle blowing claims to prevent the loss of the tiled mural.

The council want to cover the mural with advertisement light boxes but Mr Grant is trying to overturn the decision by appealing directly to Brent’s Chief Executive, Carolyn Downs.

The council claims they were granted planning permission in 2017 to cover with vinyl advertising sheets, in 2019 they claim this was upgraded to include light boxes.

Grant argues that the planning consent  does not permit the light boxes to extend over the footballers mural.

He claims Brent council is putting profit before the football heritage of the subway and there is public interest in retaining the work of art for permanent public show.
