Champions League qualifiers for Irons prestige friendly

|

West Ham will face a top European club side in their final prestige friendly at the London Stadium ahead of the new season on August 8.

And although the club concerned remains a well guarded secret inside the club it will certainly be a European outfit which has qualified for the Champions League.

We are sorry we can’t name the team as nobody at the club is prepared to let on but we do know that it will be a very strong qualifying team which will represent a real challenge for the squad ahead of their first Premier League game at Newcastle.

The Hammers have lined up an increasingly tough series of games this summer with Leyton Orient and Northampton Town providing the opposition tonight (Tues) before we travel to Reading, Celtic and newly promoted Brentord through July.

Whilst nobody is prepared to let on the name of the European outfit speculation that it could be Lazio – as part of a Felipe Anderson deal – isn’t on with the Rome team finishing sixth in Serie A last season.

We were told by a member of the backroom staff: “It’s a team that has has qualified for CL, from a major European football nation, proper tough opposition”
