It has has always been believed that money talks in the Premier League, your turnover, your wage bill, the size of your stadium, your ticket income, your retail income and your global brand and fan base dictate the pecking of the top four in the Premier League.
Last night, Leicester City changed all that and proved everybody wrong. We could be at the start of a new world order in Premier League football.
Leicester had a turnover of £104.4m in 2015 compared to £120.7m for West Ham in the same period. The Foxes spent £57.4m on wages compared to the Hammers’ £63.9m last year. Their average gate for King Power Stadium was 31,693 with a stadium capacity 32,262 while the Irons averaged 34,871 from the Boleyn’s 35,000 capacity. Leicester earned just £10.65m from ticket sales while West Ham earned over double that.
Despite being financial inferior in almost every category, Leicester City did the unthinkable, the unbelievable and won the Premier League this season.
Yes they have rich Thai owners but Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha with his £1.9 billion of wealth compares to David Gold and Sullivan’s £1.3 billion of combined assets. What is £600m between friends?
It appears that financial might is no longer an impediment to the top four and we could see West Ham win a Premier League title in our life time.
West Ham co-chairman, David Gold tweeted: “Congratulations to Leicester City for winning the Premier League against all the odds, magnificent well done. West Ham next year. dg”
Why not? We can do it… Leicester proved again that there is nothing impossible in this world. Courage, determination, organisation and also a grain of folly… 😉
COYI
Yes matte , just a grain ? Lol .don’t forget the ref,s , oliver for instance let Rooney and fellani
Stay on the park v the foxes , ( as a for instance ) we should be sitting second if it were not for the men in black , I don’t envisage change anytime soon on their front , technology needs to come to town but I fear they will get around that one with some stupid quota rule ?
Or a different can of worms that can wiggle their way out of !. To say I have no trust in the system is a understatement ! Where there’s power there’s corruption ! Fact of life ,
I will believe change when I see it , well done Leicester , you fooled them , you won’t get away with it next year , no grains left ??
ahah… you’re right John, not a grain but a truckload of folly… 😉
We can all dream right!! why not even the Europa league? I would like to get the FA Cup myself next year. we have been close this year all be it for a dodgy decision at MAN U.
Leicester have proved it’s possible but for me the so called Big Boys will be back on their game again next season. This season has been a little bit freaky. If there was a season to do it it was this year.Having said that I’m just a mug punter, what do I know, haha 🙂
Finances aside Leicester have won the title by showing all the credentials of the ‘usual suspects’: Tight defence, a strong spine in the team, pace and width, a striker bagging 25 goals and shooting on sight, a settled team, relatively few injuries… The rub of the green… Fergie time goals…. The list goes on!!
It can be done and they shown an excellent blueprint to everyone who would think its all about money
In Slav we trust!! Of course we can win it next season…..we WILL win it next season!! We have the best man-manager and tactician in the Prem……he’s a shrewd judge of a player as well. Valencia, Song, Moses, Eminike and O’Brien will move on. (And dare I say it, Carroll as well? Just a feeling…….I’d like to keep him in the squad) Six players will be signed….plus the addition of Poyet, Samuelson, Cullen, Burke and Oxford available to the first team, i.e. not sent out on loan.
Full credit to Leicester City for their fantastic achievement, I feel they may not finish in the top half next season. Unless they invest heavily, their squad will be stretched with the CL adventure, and should Vardy and the other fella become injured and out for a few weeks, they might be truly stuffed. If West Ham had not had between 6 and 9 of their squad out between November and January.their results might’ve been very different. Another 15 points would’ve put them about Tottenham for sure!
Yes we could if we bring in 3 class players and keep all our big stars,
But you won’t get 5000/1 odds that’s for sure,
1000/1 at best and yes I am going to have a little dabble plus a punt on Payet for player of the year and another on Lanzini,
Who ever win next year will have to play 100% team football from now on,no more teams who ever they are thinking other clubs will be worried about them,
Next year all teams will go to Man City,Manure,Liverpoor Gooners,Spuds Chelski knowing they can win,
A change for the best in our football
I am so happy for Leicester as Niall said they showed champions qualities in almost every game, if we had their rub of the green we would have been champions this season there is not a lot in it between us and them what it shows is you need great team spirit a little bit of luck and goalscorer that can bag you 20+ goals a season, if we can improve right back, defensive midfield and get a prolific scorer (If Sunderland go down, we should try and sign Lamina Kone (right CB) Kirchoff (DM) and Defoe) which would solve two of our problems and give us an upgrade in the right centre back position, they would raise us a level, will also be interesting to see what happens to Ngolo Kante at the end of the season as I have a feeling he may be moving teams.
Kirchhoff looked clas but not as good as Kouyate which means dropping Noble which would cause eruptions,
I though Nordvelt was coming into cover at no cost
Would never bring Defoe back,he would offer less then AC or Sak and we are scoring goals it’s the defence we need
Still think Burke is ready or Henry should be given a chance,I don’t like buying players from relegated teams because if they go down there must be a problem and 3 players from one team makes no sense,
