Tranmere Rovers have published their financial accounts following their second successive relegation but directors said the losses would have been much higher without a one-off windfall from former player Aaron Cresswell’s transfer to West Ham.
The accounts report “transfer income of £739,824 thanks to a 20 per cent sell-on clause with Ipswich Town, who sold Aaron Cresswell to West Ham United.” That values West Ham’s transaction with Ipswich for Cresswell at a bargain £3,699,120.
At the start of July 2014, West Ham completed the signing of Ipswich Town defender Aaron Cresswell for a reported fee of £3.75m at the time. He joined Ipswich Town from Tranmere Rovers in July 2011. The accounts show that Tranmere Rovers posted a turnover of £3m in 2013/14 which is dwarfed in size to West Ham’s £115m turnover for the same period.
