David Moyes on Antonio

|

In his pre-match press conference earlier this week, David Moyes tried to make the media believe that the Southampton game would come too soon for Michail Antonio claiming he has only just begun training with a football again.

That comment now appears to have been one of the manager’s mind games with opposition as Mikey was in fact on the bench and made a 15-minute cameo role.

His runs showed he is not quite fully match fit yet but it was great to see him back on the pitch and come through unscathed.

After the game, Moyes told reporters. “We have missed him, we have been muddling through a little bit without him, trying to find ways of getting goals from other sources if we can. The players have done a good job but obviously getting him back playing, we have to tread carefully with him, be patient with him.”

All eyes will now be on the Everton game although the manager will probably air on caution and start him on the bench again.

The lad cannit be rushed back. DM knows this through his experience in management. No idea why some idiots think Micky should start whilst he needs to still recover and gain fitness. Rush him back then he gets injured and layed off for a lot longer next time. Would be pretty awesome if they brought in Jovic during the Jan transfer window…who knows indeed but we wil continue to fight on. I must add also, in the past when we were trailing teams like Brighton, we would’ve lost the game without doubt – but watching the hammers go behind these days doesn’t worry me at all – I have a more positive feeling that we can claw back and even win rather than struggle to get a draw. Players are clearly tired however they get paid enoigh to deal with it, so they must deal with it…final point is I can’t actually believ ethe anti DM muppets out there. Damn! There are always reasons to rest and play players that the manager / coaching staff only know about. The last few games have been up and down, but it’s been the same for other teams too…so instead of jumping on the Anti DM platform, try thinking for yourself for a change. The fact is DM is the man to take us forward…get behind him and stop acting like WHU should be top of the PL week in week out 🙂 COYI

The problem is that some idiots believe they can think.
You have nailed it. Antonio needs time. Players are paid to train and the reward is playing, so if one is tired, reward another. Each match demonstrates that the team is improving, even if not clear from the score line. Moyes is moving us in the right direction and finishing mid-table while he acquires, or moulds, the kind of player he wants will take time. Fully supportive.
Regarding the first statement, it is tongue-in-cheek. I appreciate reading opinions that differ from mine, as everyone sees the match through their lens. That is why the “Comments” section exists.

Well said both Jersey Hammer and GaryD. Great season (by WHU usual standards) so far. Will be intense if we can get Antonio back playing regularly and everyone else doing their bit too. Many folk seem to think that fitness and playing football is an exact science. Has never been the case and only ever will be in computer games. In the mean time, let’s all enjoy the success of the team without Antonio and get behind Seb Haller and company. Dawson looks good. Competent. Hope that continues with all players. Confidence will only help Fornals, Benrahma and Haller.
