Promising defender commits his future to the Hammers

Hammers defender Michael Forbes has inked a new contract with the club. The U21s captain has extended his association with the Hammers until June 2026.

The central defender featured in West Ham’s EFL Trophy loss to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night. Whilst Forbes was at fault for The ‘Chairboys’ second goal, it was an unfortunate error that didn’t accurately reflect his overall performance.

In the early stages of the game, when Wycombe launched a long-ball onslaught, Forbes bailed out his defensive partner Luizao on several occasions. The defender clearly possesses leadership skills, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he were sent on loan next season to gain valuable experience.

Forbes has accumulated 26 appearances in all competitions for the U21s and guided his side to the Bristol Street Motors Trophy last 16 for the first time in the club’s history.

A senior Northern Ireland international who made his debut in his country’s final UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier against Finland in October last year, Forbes is thrilled to commit his future to West Ham.

Speaking to the official website he said: “I am over the moon, to be honest, and it is really nice to get this contract over the line. When I signed my first professional contract with West Ham, getting my next one was a huge goal of mine, so I am proud that my work in that time has been recognised and that I have done well enough to get this contract.”

I certainly look forward to seeing more of the Casey/Forbes partnership in defence. As Claret & Hugh reported earlier this week, Luizao could be heading back to Brazil as early as this transfer window.
