Manchester United are tonight being reported as having agreed a price in principle for Borussia Dortmund for England winger Jadon Sancho.
And that is very good news on two fronts for West Ham both as far as Declan Rice and Jesse Lingard are concerned.
The BBC reports that they understand United will pay Dortmund 85m euros (£73m) for the 21-year-old, who joined them from Manchester City in 2017.
United have made it clear on several occasions that they have nothing like the money available to them as in the past and it could well be that Sancho will be their only signing this summer.
It certainly doesn’t put them in a position to spend anything around £100 million for Declan and will surely cause Jesse to think very seriously about where his future lies.
Sancho’s arrival can only put more pressure on him at Old Trafford amid reports that the club are ready to offer him a new three year contract worth £130k a week.
That too seems unlikely given the apparent shortage of cash at the club compared to that available in previous years.
You have to hand it to Man Ure, they know how to throw huge money around in the transfer window!?!? They’re right up there with Citeh, Chelski etc.
According to planet football.com Net spending 2015 – 20 saw Manu 2nd only to Citehs £602mil. spending £485mill.
Although I’m dubious about these numbers as is suggests West Ham spent £187mil. on players…???
Sancho deal may mean exits for Lingard, Martial, James and Mata
Makes you wonder whether Fantasy Premier League is more to do with sport than the real thing. After all, in FPL, everybody starts with the same amount of money…
This report may also lead to our supporters looking realistically at our own war chest and how much we will have available to spend this summer.
Post-covid the big-spending days look to be over for everyone. Our recent surge in the recruitment of talented youngsters looks to be the way forward and possibly a bigger part of what we do as a club.
