Results couldn’t have worked out better for the Irons today as they continue their build-up to the Boxing Day match against Palace on Boxing Day.
Everton were of particular interest as they sat just one place below us before their game against Arsenal which they drew 0-0 and their goal difference now matches hours on -9 whilst they sit on the same number of points – 19.
Bournemouth – in 14th place – fell to a late goal at home to Burnley and are just one point in front of us but three goals better off.
And below us Aston Villa slipped into the relegation zone when well beaten by Southampton 1-3 at Villa Park.
The events of today leave us with a game in hand on those around us and a chance – with a win at Selhurst Park – of climbing the table again.
Among those we can leapfrog are Brighton who travel to Spurs, the Cherries who entertain Arsenal and Everton who host Burnley.
Just the small matter of beating Palace left for us!
Next level, yay.
Wonderful isn’t it si…👍😂😂😂
Ha ha ha makes me laugh..so many high expectations and like above says the next level …but we are pleased because certain teams lost and we are not dropping in the relegation zone …ha ha ha fu?? Me how sad that is.. I wonder if we will ever have a team and a season like Leicester or wolves that we can really get behind, let alone win a cup …think it was about this time that Sullivan said we would be playing champions league football by now ,and look at us we fell for it..but let’s look on the bright side villa lost so they don’t jump above us..👍👍👍👍👍😂😂😂😂😂
Appreciate its referencing the results, but not sure “Good news Saturday” is a fitting headline when a club legend has died.
Take the point. Apologies. A tad thoughtless. Sorry for any offence. I did write a piece rembering him and paying my tribute.
No offence taken, just flagging it as thought maybe it would be best to reword it. Saw the tribute piece and have no doubt the title of this article was just a bit of an oversight. Coyi
We need to realise , it’s what we do that matters, we have no control on how other teams perform, we should only pay attention to getting our job done . We see too much of this speculation about beating a team & we go 3rd or 7th , only to fail.
It reported what happened. That’s all.
Good article, and good points sir. Now all you gotta do is not tell Pelligrini and his merry men. How many times last season did a good log position knock on our door … and we failed. So yes, let’s hope this time around, the team surprise us. God bless West Ham.
I think my final line with exclamation mark takes in your point Simon
Are we really celebrating other teams losing to keep us out of the bottom 3, how low our expectations have become ?
Sullivan & Gold are cheap opportunists whose football club’s have won nothing aside from one play-off final in all their 26 (twenty six) years of football club ownership.
You don’t need Mystic Meg to see the future for WHUFC.
And our previous owners record for the sake of balance
the small matter of beating Palace at Selhurst Park?? not too likely i would say. i’d be very happy to be wrong about that…but this article smacks of desperation. but then, we’re desperate aren’t we?
I agree with you Steve – we need to first of all reach the magic 40 point mark (I dont think we will see a team relegated with 42 points -as we were – again any time soon) and then we can relax and enjoy the games and hopefully push on into the top half of the table – I would not like another season like Zola’s last where we scraped survival with (I think) 35 points because three other teams were so poor
I share doubts others have about beating Palace and I’d take a point right now. Until Fabianski comes back and is fully fit, without Anderson at the top of his game and with that gap of pace and power right in the middle of the pitch that we’ve needed for a good few seasons, we’re probably not going to compete with most other teams in the league.
