Hammer Sebastian Haller has been accused of not celebrating goals but West Ham supporters need to understand this is nothing new and has always been his thing.
His former coach at Frankfurt, Niko Kovac nicknamed the ‘Cool bird’, in Germany says he cut a calm figure on the pitch hardly showing any emotion.
Haller has only knowingly let his emotions get the better of him once after scoring a penalty. After the game he said ‘The time I was that emotional, maybe it was with my daughter but I don’t really like to show it, even if I am thinking about a lot things, I try to stay cool’
So there you have it from the man himself, he is not grumpy, disinterested or homesick. It prefers to stay unemotional and be a cool bird.
As Hugh said in a piece yesterday Haller’s attitude is actually a breath of fresh air tosomeof us who find choreographed celebrations on the pitch often infantile at best.
Stay cool Seb, some of us appreciate it mate!
When will fans realise Haller not celebrating is actually his thing. pic.twitter.com/CH5lhoNpsQ

There’s more than a touch of the Nicholas Anelka about Haller, and that’s fine, as long as he performs on the pitch.
if you want to cool and unemotional celebrations search Youtube for West Ham v QPR and see the master of cool Bobby Moore celebrate a goal.
While Haller doesn’t celebrate his own goals, I’ve noticed he always joins in and is happy when others score
Thank you Keith – I found the link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ynPzd2kgS8 and as an even older grumpy old bugger than EssBeeMUC – next comment – it was so wonderful to watch Bobby, Geoff and Martin with Harry and Trevor playing the West Ham way again – in black and white but their skills were like watching an animated rainbow!
Good point Keith. He wants to win as much as anybody. Happy for others, contained celebration for himself.
Thanks for clearing that up. When the fans get back, maybe they can chant “Cool biiiiirrrrdd!” When he scores. I must say I find many of the goal celebrations these days as way over top.
But then again, I am a grumpy old bugger!
Well I’ll tell you what – he can stay cool, or grumpy or totally Mr Humpy as far as I am concerned. As long as he contributes to the team effort every game, and scores goals then he can drive a fast car and call himself Steve McQueen, I don’t care.
It’s if he doesn’t do the above but still tried to play it cool that it upsets me.
What’s the point of celebrating a goal when the chances are that VAR will rule it out anyway!
Not sure why people give a toss about whether he smiles or not. Plenty of things to criticise in terms of some of his performances, but always thought the smiling / celebrating thing was a daft point to bring up.
Many have mentioned it Alan and I agree with you
At least you can’t get booked for being cool (Unlike for ripping your jersey off)
However I would like to repeat my call for badge kissing to be made a punishable offence – punished by a retrospective ban when the player (kisser) changes clubs later
Whatjumps in front of my eyes is Kouyate crossing his arms in a Hammer fashion whenever he scored a goal. It seemed nice. But then he left for Pałace… Mixed feeling on the celebration thing. But Cheikou was a decent midfielder though.
