Hammer set for Baggies medical

|

Hammer Grady Diangana is reported to be undergoing his medical at the Hawthorns this morning as the winger edges towards to a £18m transfer to West Bromwich Albion.

The report by the Daily Telegraph claims the player has agreed personal terms worth £35,000 per week with Slaven Bilic and is set complete his move.

The Telegraph first broke the story on Wednesday suggesting a £12m bid had been accepted, the broadsheet have since conceded that offer was in fact £18m and now suggest a further £2m of add-ons.

West Ham will retain a 20% sell on clause should the 22-year-old come good with the midlands outfit and be sold.

The Hammers have explained they reluctantly accepted a bid after receiving no other offers for other wingers.

With an unbalanced squad, the money will be used to reinforce defensive positions with a defensive addition expected to be announced within the next two weeks.

Nobody has any idea whatsoever the kind of business losses the owners have suffered due to Covid do they? Sully has commercial property. God knows how many millions have been wiped off the value. Gold has a string of shops. Who goes into shops anymore. How many millions have been lost in ticket revenue? Gold and sully have lost many many millions due to Covid. Is it any surprise they have got no money to give to Moyes for transfers?

The reason that the Club has no money for transfers this close season is that GSB made a series of fatal decisions starting in May 2018, when they appointed Pellegrini. They gave a green light to Pellegrini’s transfer policy, which had more holes in it than Swiss cheese. The alarm bells should’ve started ringing for GSB when Pellegrini gave Wilshere a three-year deal. To appoint the wrong manager once I think most fans can forgive. To do it twice – and let’s not forget that one of the first important decisions GSB made was to appoint Avram Grant – is much less forgivable. On top of poor managerial appointment decisions, we’ve had the enormous mismanagement of fans’ expectations resulting from the move to OS. Perhaps most importantly of all, GSB have failed to realise very much commercial gain from the move to the OS (you only have to take a look at the ads for, for instance, local skip hire firms on Europe’s largest wraparound screen prior to matchday kick offs, to come away with a sense that it isn’t working out well). Additional commercial revenue could be used to bring in players. Ultimately, I don’t think that the extent to which Ann Summers has been affected by Covid should have very much bearing on West Ham United’s finances in the longer term. GSB’s acumen in running a football club ought to be much more influential. In their first 10 years they haven’t demonstrated very much acumen, it would appear. Let’s hope for, but not expect, better in their second decade.

Hugh, do you know if the 20% is for profit or total sale sum?

I dislike these owners immensely for their complete mismanagement of the club and the sneaky way they go about it.

However, if that previous mismanagement has got us to the position where we have to sell to buy, and it’s not just the board using Sean to dull our expectations, then I do not get the uproar about selling Diangana.

£20m is a decent price for a player we didn’t think was good enough to get in the team last season so loaned out. I get that he is young but with the way the premier league is these days, players break through much younger.

This is a position we are well stocked, albeit there are others that I’d rather see go first, but they have simply not drawn interest from other clubs.

Keen to see Billic do well, I watched half a dozen WBA games last year and I thought the lad did okay but never shone in them games. After the initial League Cup game, where he scored a brace, and one of his first premier appearances, he never exactly pulled up trees for us either. He made little impact and got dropped.

So, for me the sale makes sense, based on what I have seen of him and if we are so desperate for funds, because the defence needs a couple of additions.

Correct me if i am wrong, but are very close to the home grown quota limit? His home grown status is a reason to have kept Diagana. Plus with brexit coming there will be a home grown premium for transfers for home grown players.Haller was recently praising the service diangana gave him. We need more pace in team and he has that

I think this is a terrible PR move by the board as fans were looking forward to seeing him this season but doubt they care.

roll on 2023 when god willing they will sell up

The Pellegrini saga has its origins in the clamour from shout out loud fans demanding big name manager, spend a lot of dosh and for GSB to let him manage transfers.
My advice to board is its your money you make the decisions with the manager.
Covid so far has cost each premier club at least £40million and rising!
