Hammers cock it all up again at the death

Ogbonna commited a ridiculous foul to give Palace a penalty

Ogbonna commited a ridiculous foul to give Palace a penalty

They chucked it away again in the last 10 seconds and they only have themselves to blame!

After taking a two goal lead through Chicharito  and Andre Ayew, the Irons were on cruise control until five minutes into the second half when Ogbonna gave away the most ridiculous of penalties.

He chose to clip Andros Townsend from behind as he ran AWAY  from goal and Milivojevic stepped up to beat Hart from the spot.

That was the signal for the chicken-hearted Irons to defend as deep as possible in a bid to hang on to their precarious lead.

Any running, passing and creativity we had seen and there wasn’t much stopped to demonstrate exactly where the Hammers are this season – suffering from a massive inferiority complex and in no way able to boss any game.

But it almost worked until Antonio chose not to find one of three strikers awaitinge’s cprner a cross in from the right and the ball was cleared to Zaha who went to the other end and tuck away a low shot past Hart.

The simple thing to do was to hold the ball in the corner and let the seconds tick down but no he cocked it up completely – shocking.

Chicharito had opened the scored with a clipped shot from the outside of his boot from inside the box before Ayew added his fifth for the campaign with a thunderous shot into the top corner after a magical run.

That alone should have won the match but instead we decided to play like a bunch of scared rabbits caught in the headlights of a very poor Palace side.

There was nothing here to convince anybody that we are on any sort of upward curve and another two goals conceded take the tally for the season to 19  and the nine points sees us in 16th place.

Next up it’s Liverpool at home, then Watford away and Leicester City at home but the hard fact is  it’s hard to fancy the team against anybody.

With an international break squeezed between all that there needs to be some serious decision making going on at this troubled club.

A penalty just as ridiculous as the free=kick he gave away later. Just shows that scoring winning goals don’t make a good defender.

    • sleepswithdafishes says:

that was the turning point in a mach we were coasting. Before that I was relaxed in watching a game we were going to win, when a numb-brained penalty meant I spent the last 50 minutes ( + 6 + 2 ) like a nervous wreck.

      • drevil1969uk says:

We wasnt coasting at all. They were very unlucky to be behind but they came out wanting to win the second half and we came out hoping to hang on. Whatever team talk Slav gave, it was terrible. Makes you wonder if Noble gave it V Spurs and thats why we were better. Before the pen they were causing us problems and we panicked. Even after goign 1-0 then 2-0 up we looked all over the place

Damn right Hugh. Two of the Most inept mistakes by Ogbonna and Antonio you’ll ever see. But let’s not fool ourselves, they’ll make the headlines but in-between it was too very poor sides and neither deserved to win. As you say, time for some decisions to be made because this just isn’t anywhere near acceptable.

    Nothing has changed… Rubbish ..laughable…..

  • Lazurus. rises like a salmon says:

Poor team selection ! Deserved everything they got. totally in professional ! Antonio needs to read a game better instead of playing like a bull with no brains ?? Which led to a goal which
they deserved on merit and effort !! But that was 💩 again !!! No change !!! Knife through butter in m/ f !! Poor!😈

It is not an accident or bad reffing that we are giving away penalties/red cards. And late goals. It is a symptom of a poorly disciplined team. I know the manager cannot be on the pitch with them, but in the end it is his responsibility. Oh yes, & of the owners who chose him & now refuse to act. I give up.

  • Roytheboy says:

I think we would struggle in the championship at the moment absolutely terrible performance.

If Bilic cannot coach basic defensive techniques, he has to be held responsible. I won’t be attebnding any more games while he remains at the club.

    • drevil1969uk says:

He does not appear to be coaching anything, we are all over the place in all departments

    • sleepswithdafishes says:

you need more than a coach for Ogbonna. he needs a double-decker bus to take him back to Italy.

  • JRS says:

Are we just incapable of playing a good full 90 mins. Seems we cab only play good 45. Whether its the first or the 2nd half.

Hart had is best game ever & Rice made crucial save. Zaha ran all over us. And they don’t even have a striker. If Benteke was there w all the corners we gave away…
Either way in the 2nd half we could have gone down by 4-5 goals.
Don’t know what Antonio was thinking but not sure why Bilic put him on as WB either then Fonte got injured and Rice had to go in luckily he saved us from a goal. We have only 2 fit CBs right now.
Ayew was brilliant seems he has got confidence back and up front w 2 suits him better.

    But they want sack Bilic……
Tho we need a complete overall the Handball coach dicks all of them.
The board gives managers more time than any other club I just don’t want to see Grant situation again

  • hammers64 says:

Nothing has changed in reality.Same mistakes every week (no team has conceded more pens or injury time goals).Even at 2-0 you could see the scenario that unfolded.Schoolboy errors are not being addressed and a tough, chair throwing new manager needs to come in and change the mentality.Said the Spurs win was just papering over the cracks and so it has proved yet again.Liverpool next against a team that will be gutted for blowing it again.

  • drevil1969uk says:

I dont get how we dont seem to be good at anything under Slav, what do we do in training? We cant defend, pass, move, we are unfit, players look lost and managing time is ridiculous.

  • bashammer11 says:

I didn’t get carried away after the spurs win,to be honest i would have sacrificed that result to get three points against palace.Papering over the cracks as 64 said.
I can see the two david’s saying well we got a win and a draw in the last two games so we will let bilic carry on, 😡

  • pabloonechop says:

I am no fan of Bilic but to b3 fair he cannot be accountable for 3 things:
    Ogbonna penalty.
    Antonio’s stupidity oh and
The goal was scored on 97mins when 6 were addded.

    • sleepswithdafishes says:

no use being fair on here tonight; we lost lol
      totally agree .

    • Muckracker says:

We concede penalties too frequently and our players do not seem to be tactically astute, always making poor decisions, as did Antonio today.

I’m afraid the buck stops with Bilic whose job it is to correct our obvious deficiencies, which he is clearly failing to do week in week out.

If the Dave’s had any mercy they would have ended his misery already.

  • Hammer64 says:

Same thing last season. We beat a weakened Chelsea in the League Cup so everything was fine. We keep hearing that things have improved in October. After 3 straight defeats almost anything looks like an improvement. The evidence of your eyes is that we are poor poor poor. We have now played most of the poor sides but only a couple of the top ones, so things will only get worse. Sullivan said he believes the manager should only be changed if things are really serious. I think it will be even by his standards in a few weeks. Will it be too late by the time he wakes up?

  • Hammerkip says:

Please just get grid of bilic now because nothing is going to change until they do ..forget the late goal we we’re awful again ..the seasons gone already in my opinion but if they keep bilic relegation is on the cards …every single fu!!!!! Game is a disaster apart from 15 min on Wed….ffs plse change the fu!!!!! Record

  • cas_blue says:

WTF do these idiots do in training? Clearly nothing! The whole coaching set up is a joke. So ill disciplined. We are a premier league club and have a coach like Julian Dicks at the club. Before I get slaughtered here remember he has no proven track record as a coach and was well renowned as a poor trainer. How can he set an example?

  • Melbourne Hammer says:

This week has been so typical West Ham, thrashed by Brighton at home then come from behind to beat Spurs to get everyone’s confidence back then fail against a dismal Palace side…. I can’t work out why we didn’t want to score in the second half to kill the game off. Every time a good break was on we would just give away instead is attacking the goal.

  • Neil Down Under says:

Ah West Ham! Remind me again why we put ourselves through this season after season?
I don’t remember the last time we won the FA Cup. I was alive but expect the discovery of the old man’s building sand in the garden seemed more exciting. I do remember the pain of losing to Liverpool and wondering often what may have been for Dean Ashton if not for the ankle.
Although I enjoyed the several promotions from what is now the championship I didn’t really celebrate as I never thought our club should have been in that league in the first place.
I remember being excited when the Browns finally sold up, it was unforgivable that they didn’t continue to invest in the team that got us our highest ever finish in the then first division.
I really hoped that the Icelanders would take the club to the next level not to the brink of insolvency, a generation of talent sold, Ferdinand, Lampard, Cole, Defoe (although to be fair he could have had better advice).
Then the Dave’s and I don’t much worry about how they made their money, they are fans and their investment probably saved the club. And then the managers, I’d not want to be a manager in the Premier League for quids. However why is it so hard to find one that can bring us stability, small successes and build? Playing the way we love to watch the game?
I don’t have the answers but far out, losing to Palace from being 2-0 up? With the squad we have on paper and the talent coming through from the youth teams I really hope we don’t see a repeat of history.
Unless that is winning the FA Cup, League Cup, European Cup and making another assault on the top three is the repeat of history!
Is the Intertoto Cup still around?
