Hammers historic spend – the details

|

West Ham have spent £115 million in transfer and agents fees during the summer window – by far and away the most we have ever seen from the club in its long history.

And when players wages and National Insurance contributions plus the cost of bringing in Manuel Pellegrini and his backroom team are added in the figure rises to around £155 million.

The Hammers board ensured from the moment they snared the Chilean to take over at the London Stadium that they were entering into the biggest numbers ever at the club.

He is on a wage of £10 million a year whilst his team are believed to be on up to another £5 million.

In player negotiations agents fees now account for a big chunk of the payments and it is not unknown for a player’s representative to organise his/her own fee before agreeing to bring a player to negotiations.

Here’s where the money went:

Lukatz Fabianski £7m

Issa Diop £22 million

Andriy Yarmolonko £18 million

Felipe Anderson £35.5 million

Fabian Balbuena £5 million

Jack Wilshere Free but £6 million signing on bonus

Ryan Fredericks. Free plus signing on bonus

Lucas Perez £4 million

Like other fans in happy with the spend but let’s be honest in today’s football money it’s not historic really especially when we havnt spent hardly anything in years

Very good transfer window for us especially manager and back room staff .I am confident we will turn up for every game this season but must be mindful that it will take time for the team to bed in as Sir Trev said a while back I will judge after Pelligrini tenure and not after the Liverpool game

Sensible words West Boy 🙂 agree completely, on the transfer side not hearing much about Sanchez but it seems Everton have already got a work permit approved for Bernard and are set to unveil him, so I guess we will see early in the season if we should maybe have pushed that boat out also, other than not really addressing the CDM position it has been a very good window, I even like the signing of Perez although it has divided some fans, as Husillos says he is different to what we have, he is left footed for a start where apart from AC all our other forwards are predominantly right footed, so that will give us a bit more balance and as he also said he is good at linking up play which if we play 442 will be of great use, lets hope for a huge season COYI !!!

Was Xande Silva totally free or did he arrive AND leave on 2nd August?

If you take the Kouyate money off our net spend is only 80 million or so. I’m not a big fan of add on fees, agent fees etc being included as no other club seems to mention them in their figures. It’s been hyped up that we are the big spenders apart from Liverpool by the media because we did our business early doors but other clubs have since blown us out the water. Strange how all the players we were linked with are now being swept up by other clubs. Bernard, Yerry Mina, Dendonker are just a few of them. Will be interesting to see how they get on elsewhere but you do get the feeling we may have missed out on some absolute bargains.

Fair point Clive, Bernard seemed to want a shed load of signing on money, Mina is a lot of money for a ‘one tournament sensation’ but Dendoncker seems like a good signing for Everton, loan to buy for £12mil……?

  • West Boy says:

Clive if we signed everyone we were linked to we would have a squad of a 100 ,don’t worry about those we didn’t get or who didn’t want to be a part of this new adventure I have never known a more exciting transfer window and have supported this club for many years . EMBRACE Clive be positive we are on the up .

£75m was the budget figure, which is a big figure. But perhaps it would be more accurate to say ‘was’. The financial situation has been changed by the TV money & the increasing role of rich foreign owners. Both Fulham & Wolves have moneybags owners. Everton too. Plus the usual suspects at the top. Villa will probably be back next year. Our guys may need to bring in some rich mates.

There is no way that our present board can maintain this type of expenditure as West Ham simply do not earn as much as the bigger clubs. Our match revenue, sponsorship, merchandising etc is way behind the other London clubs. You are right Hammer64 – rich mates are needed but they will not invest as a minority shareholder. We now have a £50m overdraft so we either need a very good season to increase the cash flow or the transfer kitty may be seriously smaller next year. I hope that I’m wrong but I can’t see us advancing much. What team has ever advanced in the premier league without very wealthy owners? Its always been Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd. Man City are now in but at what cost? I don’t include Spurs as they can implode very easily.

I suggested it in another post, why not approach Usmanov to become a major shareholder, he wants to invest in football he can’t do it Arsenal so why not at the biggest club in London 😉 I think the Chairmen will continue to spend so long as there is progression, if we make Europa League we need even more quality to get the returns.

On the subject of Perez seems to be a decent amount of gooners that are sad he is gone, they rate him higher than Wellbeck and Iwobi and think he was class every time he played for them.
