West Ham are in discussions with veteran defender Pablo Zabaleta to sign an extended deal for the rest of the season.

The Irons have seen Jeremy Ngakia decide to quit the club and it had been thought that the Argentine right back may decide to move on before the start of the resumed campaign

With Ngakia on his way it looked likely that we would be relying on Ryan Fredericks and Ben Johnson to cover the right back position.

But David Moyes is keen to hold on to Zaba given the pressure that will be on a squad playing so many games in such a short space of time.

And the club is now hopeful that the 35 year old will make himself before his planned premier League retirement.

A club source told us that they were hopeful the deal would done declaring: “We are in discussions and they are positive.”
