West Ham were wrongly claimed to be one of three Premier League clubs that are pushing for a points deduction for the greedy six who tried to break away to form a European Super League.
A report in the Daily Mail published last night at first claimed Everton, Newcastle and West Ham are leading the push for the Big Six to be punished by the Premier League. The story has been hastily re-written dropping the Hammers from that list completely.
Both remaining clubs are said to be lobbying for points deductions on the grounds that fining a club owned by a billionaire would be an empty gesture, there is an acceptance among the other clubs that such a sanction is not practical as it would lead to a lengthy legal battle.
The Premier League Board are considering their options and are under pressure to get the matter resolved before the clubs’ end-of-season shareholders’ meeting next month. Claret and Hugh understand West Ham are not pushing for a points deduction and never have.
Fining billionaires wouldn’t really stop them trying again in a few years.
So, IMHO it would an Act of Good Faith if the ‘dirty 6’ were to donate a hefty some to the EFL, to be split among the lower leagues and save some of the financially struggling clubs from the recent pandemic imposed shut-out of fans and income streams….. just a thought
They made an error of judgement with their announcement of plans. They quickly realised and changed their plans. Forgive and move on. No ‘punishments’ are neccessary. The lesson has been learnt. COYI
Maybe west ham aren’t pushing for a points deduction. But tend to agree with those who are.what is the point of a monetary fine of any kind,?They disrupt the whole of football and get away with it JOK E. If not a fine as such 2 year ban from european football as and when they qualify. Starting now. Or will we see weakness. The fans stood strong – time for the authorities to do so. That would be novel !
we were fined 5 million for breaching prem rules in 2007 + 20+ million by Sheffield utd so a fine of at least 30 million would be a deterrent and as blimey says the money distributed among the lower league
Banning them from European Competitions would isolate them even further and add fuel to the fire that they’ll try again in the future. Saddens me to read about Food Banks in UK and how bad it has become. Fine the clubs an appropriate amount and distribute amongst the needy.
The Judas Six must be held accountable for firstly conspiring to form the breakaway league.
Secondly, actually signing an agreement which is in breach of PL rules.
Remember that these clubs only reneged after UEFA warned them about the severity of the consequences and sanctions that are likely.
Only the severest punishment meted out will suffice, points deducted from this season, not next! Six points from each of the Judas Six.
Sometimes tough love is the best way to teach a lesson that will never be forgotten.
