Hello Haller – €45 million man looks a serious bargain

|

Well after my first taste of Sebastien Haller’s abilities all I’m perfectly happy Maxi Gomez opted for Valencia.

In a word Msr Haller looks a monster!

Ok, it was a friendly and he was only on for around an hour but after supplying an assist, and adding a goal of of his own, he was mightily impressive even if this was little more than a glorified practice match.

His hold up play looks to be of the highest order and his ability to bring others into the game, whilst – as he showed on one occasion – being ready to fire in a shot cum cross from a difficult angle is exactly what we have been looking for over a long period.

The set up for Fornals goal was all about his unselfishness when he spotted the Spaniard in a better position and had immediately played him in.

His own goal came from Snodgrass’ brilliant corner which saw the Frenchman guide a controlled header into goal where Antonio lurked, just in case it needed a finishing touch.

Those who remember Patrick Kluivert, now the Barca academy chief, will get glimpses of the great man’s playing style in Haller who has the same  impressive ‘first touch’ and quick feet for his size.

Already he is showing an understanding with the likes of Fornals and Lanzini which augurs really well for the season. Seriously impressed? I’ve only seen an hour but YEAH, deffo!

Sadly we can’t say the same thing about the situation at the back which really looked pretty worrying and will need to be attended to but for now let’s enjoy Haller and the attacking philosophy of Manuel Pellegrini.

I don’t think we are gonna be short of fun and entertainment this season – do you?

Exciting times ahead…. but the defence needs serious work. We can score as many goals as you want but if we are going to have a leaky rear it’s gonna have to be plugged up.

  • Dom says:

Hopefully he’ll score plenty, however if it’s suddenly our attacking midfielders who are banging in the goals, I suspect Haller is the main reason why.

  • Peter Elliott says:

We desperately need a physical defensive midfielder to help Rice or he will be over run like today i really hope there’s some money left to buy some one or we’re going to concede bucket loads. again this season

  • John Harrison says:

Agree with Peter100%…Ogbonna worries me if Diop or Balbuena gets injured. Rice can play centre back if necessary. Makes buying physical defensive midfielder all the more necessary.

  • Hoops says:

I hope its like the Keegan days at Newcastle… You score 4 we’ll score 5

  • Neil Hogan says:

Haller’s first goal came from a free kick, not a corner, but all the same it was a good goal.
